Do it yourself Stock making thread

These are so cool. I especially love that stock with the turquoise inlay in the butt.

I built this about a year ago from a plank. I need to learn engraving so I can finish off the project. Slightly shorter range if only I could find the time to do some more stock work. I'd love to make myself something like a master sporter stock for my Tikka.

Very Cool, I wish I had that kind of skill and talent, I am good with metal, not wood. I wish I possessed both skills, Good Job!

Pecking away, I worked on the profile. I used tape to get an idea of the lines then pushed it thru the bandsaw, leaving an 1/8” for the router to cut, as it’s more accurate.

Three separate angles to adjust for in the jig, so it took a little measuring.

Yup, it has generated a little interest. I like seeing other guys work. It keeps me humble. There’s some real talent out there, tho I kinda cheer more for the first timers. My home duties have become more demanding, but I always have a project in the works.
I’ve been thinking I should start a new thread and go thru the process, but keep out the comments and questions so it’s easier to follow.

You can't start a new thread until this one hits 100 pages!;)

Good job Nick!!!! I got a call from a very good friend and shooter the other day. He told me he was on oxygen almost full time now his lungs are so bad. Hope he got to you in time Josh.

PS: Where’s @Nick Caprinolo ? Nick…….you out there? Did you notice the absence of ashtrays lately? I got tired of hearing about it so I QUIT!
Good for you Josh. When I quit back in 2001, I was on 3 packs a day. Best thing I ever did for myself.

I have had many people ask me over the years how I was able to quit after trying thousands of times before. Tell them it is like in the movie City Slicker, they were discussing what constitutes happiness and the main drive cowboy held up one finger, when asked what that means, he said you need to find that one thing and it is different for everyone.

For me it was my wife saying I would not have the energy to build the business we were starting. For some reason that stuck in my head. Go figure. Must have eaten a 100 pounds of sunflower seeds that first year. But haven't had a cig every since. She was probably right has I averaged 80 hours a week for the first 3 years without a vacation.

Sorry Josh but I still smoke. I do quit from time to time, sometimes for months but then I start again. I have four more packs left from a carton I got last week and will probably quit again when they are gone. Tough around here because my wife also smokes and has no desire to quit. Been smoking since I was 12 and am 88 now. Old habits are hard to break. Hope you can continue with non smoking.
