USPS money order theft

I recently had a money order stolen within the USPS for a transaction on this site, name and address changed in the To: column, then cashed. The copy I received back from USPS inquiry looks like a professional job… not sure how they pulled it off but looks like I’m screwed. USPS has been giving me the runaround for weeks. I’ve gone through all the proper channels and it’s now a waiting game. I’ll never do it again unless my family’s life depends on it. This is slowly forcing us to take electronic payments, etc to avoid risking the loss of our hard earned money. Think about it…. “Mark of the Beast” ….. beware folks!!! it’s coming!!!

getting anything out of the usps is a pain in the rear. they fight everything. I stopped selling on this site because they freak out about using paypal. The site needs to find someone else to do the $ for memberships. Paypal handles it.

If you sent it do you have a photo of it before you shipped it? When I ship one I usually take a picture of it for just this reason, in hopes I’d have proof of how it was filled out. Luckily for me I never had to go that route.
Did you send it with tracking? Like priority or ground advantage? That is a must when sending payments. In your case it wouldve shown that it was cashed before reaching its destination, and the addresses wouldn’t match up.

Yes to all of the above. We’ll see where it goes but doesn’t sound promising. They’re passing the buck! I’ve got reports in about 3 different channels right now with USPS. For example, they sent me a letter with a return address telling me if I had further concerns or questions to write them and send to the following address…. Guess what… the zip code is no longer valid. Had to call USPS inspector to get a valid address. They didn’t have it at a local post office. I could go on but it’s useless. Truth. I know for a fact they lose money with their current system. There needs to be a safe, SIMPLE, method for subscribing.

I have passed on buying many items around here because people only want a check or MO. The deals are never good enough to motivate me to consider the added hassle. I work normal business hours and getting to the post office is just a hassle I don't need.

PP F&F, Zelle are fine. If not, I'd rather buy it from a vendor, with my credit card, and get all of the protections it offers ... and the cash back from my CC. USPS MOs are no better than PP F&F and Zelle - it's a false sense of security.

I guess the next step is going to be an Escrow service.

If sent certified mail you can make a claim and get refunded just three days later
send any other way you are screwed --you will get it but will take forever

I have also had to pass on a few transactions because of the sellers insistence on using a postal money order for payment.

I had one MO lost in the mail and that was enough for me. I never did get my money back out of the post office.

I paid a guy an extra $100 to let me use a personal check over the money order he insisted on. If the GOV is involved it can't be good

If it was cashed there should be a record of it, video etc. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out who cashed it and work backwards.

They once told me if it was just lost and no one cashed it in 90 days they would refund it but if anybody cashed it I was shit out of luck

At this point I would persue filing a scam/fraud report with your local police and they should contact the police where the USPS Money Order was cashed.
