Mann Gun Machine Shop?

So I just received a grant to buy some more research equipment and I need some help.

At Dahlgren we had what we called a Mann Gun. This was a fixed gun that you could easily change out the barrel for different twist rates and test prototype ammunition. I want one. You can't buy these things so I figured that one of the infinite number of barrel shops would be interested in making me one. No luck so far.

Do y'all know of anyone who would be interested in a custom gun job? I'm thinking a table top gun mount that is bolt action or even breach load with a set of barrels from 1:5 to 1:12 all in 30 caliber. Maybe two sets of barrels (Win 308 and 300 Blackout). A relatively quick change out would be nice. I don't need super accuracy (I know that is a sin around here) but I do need good tolerances.

A smith could make barrels any size in about any cartridge that would change out. I would think several different actions would be suitable.
Maybe talk to a gunsmith that builds railguns.

Railguns can weigh 100 lbs and more.

I've tried several online and no joy. Any recommendations?

Looks a little antiquated (many actions available to day are stiffer and have a faster lock time) to me, like was posted maybe a good benchrest rail gun and have one of the best barrel makers do a set of barrels. Did you talk to Frank green about barrels?

If you search there are several guns called a "Mann Gun". I think they were a pretty big manufacture around WW2.

Call Dan Dowling in Palisade, Co. He don't build rail guns but can get one for you and he has all types of reamers to make barrels to fit it! 970 210-3042
 
I am a little puzzled about your choices on chamberings. They guy that taught me to shoot and to reload was a local LEO sniper team leader. He was a long range nut to begin with, and when they wanted to send him to the marine corps and FBI to learn to shoot for his continuing education at the SO, he was a very willing participant. His favorite saying about hitting something far off was "you only have two friends when shooting a long distance, speed and BC." I am sure he is right, so why would you use such slow cartridges that have little or no chance to capitalize on speed? I am not the sharpest pencil in the pack, but it is my understanding that many of the bullets we use the BC degrades as the bullet loses speed. I would think that testing with chamberings that takes advantage of the speed would be the best place to start. Am I wrong in my thinking??
 
Any chance that you have a print with specifics, tolerances and more details. I can do pretty much whatever but I can't price it without a blueprint for the exact thing I'm building or at least, a whole lot more details. To me, a rail gun is similar but not exactly what you have in mind, although one might suffice.

Sounds like you need to have one of the great gunsmiths on this site build you a rail gun.

The universal reciever can do both accuracy and pressure with a pressure port barrel. Barrels cost more as the collar is 2 inches in diameter. It is about the same cost turning the whole barrel from 2 in material or turning and threading a collar. I have done it both ways. The Mann barrels I have done are 1 1/4 dia straight.
