222 magnum improved

I shoot a 6x50. it is an RWS 5.6x50 Mag necked up. A 222 mag is a 5.6x47. So, just do a quick google on the 5.6x50 RWS and you will mot only get MV, but the reasoning of the Europeans for making the cartridge in the first place.

I used to get mine from Huntington's, they used to stock both three rimmed and rimless version. The 6x50 was/is popular down under with roo hunters from what I've read. Wolf publishings "Wildcats l&ll" has a great article on the 6x50. Most of the 3 extra mm's is in a longer neck. I shoot a 6mm-204 also. I looked seriously at the 5.6x50 when I was building my 25-204 and decided that there wasn't enough increase to warrant hard to find brass and custom dies

I looked back at a few notes I had on the 22/45. =222 mag improved

I was running 3450ish and 52/53's for accuracy. And I could push them harder just the groups didn't get any better.

I also used one for varmints with 40's I was running up around 3750ish.

Where can you get 6x50 RWS Brass?
You basically have to pray a lot, and living well helps...but otherwise it is tough to find now. I put out a "want" and had two replies. I passed on one offer, took another from an estate. I have 300 in the mail to me as we speak. Pricey, but not out of line with Lapua brass in other forms. PM me if you need a lead.

Smart move Art. The day may come when the only wildcats we can make will be from 308 and 223. You are in like flint with a 222. Great cartridge. I only fell into a 6x50 because I wanted the action the barrel came on. Turned out to be a good deal. Enough that I offered the guy I bought it from additional money once I got it. He declined, but I would have. It shoots well.

What action were you after ?

I like old Superiors...Dryden NY Ross Sherman actions. Only 30 built, as far as I can figure. 1-29 and #31. #30 was destroyed.

Ross was a fascinating guy who was behind a lot of interesting developments in accuracy. BR HOF member due to his contributions.
