Benefits of a tuner

if slightly tighter than snug can distort the bore I wonder what using a barrel vice would do to my barrel
In the case that I mentioned regarding tuners, the distortion is not permanent. The barrel springs back when the pressure is removed. I believe that this is also the case with barrel vises. A friend does a lot of works with cast lead laps, that are actually more sensitive than an air gauge, and he has not seen any problems resulting from the use of his barrel vise.

The bore can certainly constrict a tad with too much torque. The RFBR guys pay a lot of attention to bbl to receiver torque for this reason. Most only use no more than about 30 lb/ft of torque even on a .750-16 bbl tenon

Just seeing that BOSS mentioned brings up great memories. From the early 90's to today I still hunt with BOSS rifles in 6mm, 270, 7mm and a 338. LOVE the BOSS.

When the tuner craze got going in BR, it was easy for me to join in. Just took a 3rd at 600 today with a new bbl for my 6 ARC AR15. Actually the best scores I ever had there on the plates. Used a tuner/brake Eric Bostrom added for me. 40 rds at 100 yards to find first a reasonable load. Seating depth was at magazine length. Included was moving that tuner a "teeny" bit for different 3 rd. groups until it made "one hole" groups at 100 yds.

Adjusted sight up 16 MOA this morning and it held up super in nasty 600 yard Manatee winds and mirage. Tuners rule!

Maybe it’s been said, but the tuner is a single point of change. Anything, that changes combustion such a neck tension, seating depth, powder charge, etc. are almost guaranteed to impact more than one variable. Those who are familiar with the 3 body principle will understand the difficulty in tuning with multiple variables. When I change something after I’ve achieved the magic formula, I prefer to keep the number of variables to a minimum. The brass and barrel are changing enough to keep my mind confused without introducing other things.
My ultimate goal with my tuner is to know which way and how much to move the tuner based on current conditions to achieve the ideal tune at all times. Not there yet!

The 6 is still getting the start at the June matches, but it's fun playing with new stuff. No tuner on it either, but I was feeling left out and thought I would derail your thread:eek:

If you turn the hitch around, that rifle might be at a more comfy working height?

What kind of clamp is that?

Is that one of the double top secret Deep Creek Tracker 4" low rider stocks? Whatever it is, it's a great looking stock that obviously tracks well. Great shooting.

@CA_Shooter I have a barrel for this one (1.250) with a EC tuner. My thought was 22 pound rendezvous/tackdriver type match where I travel and may find a tuner useful. Shawn came up with a use I hadn't thought of this year, so maybe next time I get a dud barrel I will try his trick.

@Jud96 Yea, this rifle is stupid good, and since it was his own and he didn't charge himself the hours.....it's not exactly store bought. I own it because it "was to good for Alex". Literally! It's the original @Mulligan ? Low pro and the rifle that he shot back to back ONE'S with....Allegedly dependent on where you live.
