Gouging in factory chamber

At least shoot it once and look at the brass. Savage quality does not differentiate between a $1500.00 rifle and a $150.00 rifle. Unfortunately. Shoot it and put the bore scope away. Lol

Agreed!! If it shoots good and doesn’t destroy brass, then there’s no problem.

Once you shoot it its your fault.

That was my thought as well, I contacted them today and their response was their actions always have machining marks and a board scope magnifies everything so shoot the gun if it leaves marks on the brass then give them a call back

Don’t think my post #9 is humorous at all.
That’s a Savage LRPV not a bench rifle.
Additionally with the 3 sighters it’s the first 8
rounds . Once I worked a load up it gets smaller by a good amount.

Savage puts out junk just like everyone else. I have had probably 10 of them over the years. They all shot ok at best. Till I swapped out the barrels with something other than factory. I have had Kevin Rayhill and SSS build me rifles. And whats funny is the ones I put together myself shot better than either the guns from the so called Savage guru's.

Just because it is a Savage does not mean it is accurate. And I have had to send more guns back to Savage for problems than any other type.

Just because it is a Savage does not mean it is accurate. And I have had to send more guns back to Savage for problems than any other type.

I have not owned 10 Savage rifles, but that has not been my experience at all. There were two in particular that shot so good in factory form that I still regret breaking them down for a build.

3 new ones. The rest were you take this gun also or you can't have this one. When you bought and sold as many guns as I have 10 guns is nothing. When I had my C&R license I had over 200 military surplus guns at one time.

And when I talk about a gun that shoots ok it is shooting right at 1" 7 shot groups at 100yds. When I say shoots good that is a gun that shoots 3/4" or less.

Cannot be inclusions. That's not what they look like. Has to be some kind of tool in the chamber.. A reamer cuts by rotation, not in straight lines? Very strange, what are the finer straight equally spaced lines 90 degrees to the big scratches. Does the bore look oK? I would think the factory would do a quick look at every chamber and bore with a scope before it's released. Maybe they messed up a large number of barrels and they couldn't afford to scrap them.

Did you run anything down the barrel to clean it. Do you use a brush bore guide?

Send them the pics and state that it was never fired. It's as purchased. See if Savage would send you a new barrel?

First thing that went into the chamber was the borescope. The response I got from Savage was borescopes make everything look bigger just shoot it

If it was me, Savage and I would have another discussion on the phone about that barrel.
Those borescope pictures are clear enough that they should at least try their best to make it better.

Overall I’m not impressed with the rifle considering the cost, I guess this is also the quality of their machine work for their target actions which I was not aware of.

Did you order that, pay for it, then pick it up from your FFL? Or did you walk in a store and purchase it?
I've owned and own my share of Savage rifles, nothing like that tho. I've had 3 Target actions. 2 RBLP, 1 RBRP. Also at least 20 other Savage rifles, none of them came close to looking like that. My favorite is a
4.27" Single Shot S.S. model 12 Varmint action that I have a 30" Criterion barrel on that I use for 1000 yard FTR. It's a shame to see firearms coming out of there shop looking like yours. I expect the railroad track barrels, but that's as far as I would want to go in accepting their shortcomings.

I ordered it online. It was made in Feb 2024, when I told asked them they said it was standard and it would be hard to tell from the photos.

Sounds like they blew you off saying a bore scope makes it look worse than it is. Regardless off the cause they shouldn't be there. Tried to decide by looking at how the fine vertical scratches crossed the bigger ones, which occured first. Couldn't make my mind up. I assume the fine vertical scratches were from reaming the chamber and the big ones came later?

Bottom line they don't want responsibility.
