Do you brush inside necks after annealing?

Hello everyone I was wondering, do you brush inside necks after annealing (AMP)? If so what are you using to brush?

Tony,

Yep. Since annealing is done before trimming, FL sizing, expanding and champhering, it cleans up all the rough edges.

I do, brass caliber brush one stroke down & out. Then mop one stroke down and back.
My brass prep:
Decapping w dedicated decapping die
Cleaning in rice w Dillon vibratory unit
Put Brass in ziplock, one shot lube, move around in sealed bag
Empty brass into container and let vapor flash off
Full length resize (Area419 Zero Press / A419 M Die)
Cleaning in separate batch of rice (used only for de-lubing
Trim with Giraud trimmer
Brush/mop neck
Prime (Primal Rights CPS)
Charge (AnD FX120 AutoTrickler v4)
Seat (Amp inline press Wilson seater die)

Lotta work but works for me. SDs in 5-6 range using alpha munitions ocd brass.

Oops - insert annealing step after recapping and before first cleaning. Using EP v2 flame annealer while on wait list for Amp Annealer

I put a nylon brush in my Frankford Arsenal case prep station and give it one brush. This was the recommendation from Alex Findlay from AMP. I don't have a lathe.. figured this was close enough.

Quote from his email back to me.

"Seating forces are a combination of neck tension and friction. We get much more consistent friction by brushing the inside necks with a dry nylon bore brush in a lathe. One pass at 400 rpm works very well. Annealing won’t burn the carbon off. It will still be there, but brushing smooths it out. It is good to leave some residue. Bare metal gives very high seating forces."

Good day,

Didn't read about what I use to clean necks. 4-0000 steel wool on an undersized brush. I don't think it matters what you use to anneal. Oxidation occurs no matter what, and oxides tend to be harder to deal with than metal. Unless you use a lubricant, which opens another can of worms.

Following the KISS formula, no lubes, what gives a consistent finish. Can be stored for years before reloading. Would probably need to be annealed again after a sufficiently long storage.

It's a GOOD thing to do since the annealing leaves an abrasive oxidation coating on the surfaces of the neck. I don't brush because I vibrate tumble with rice after sizing, which takes care of that nicely.
This ^^^^
Or tumble in corn cob. Nice and even finish on the inside of the neck.

I use dry neck lube in a Forster brush kit, so, everything gets brushed before sizing. Take case from block, lube body, dip over the brush in the neck lube, and into the die. Used that process for 40+ years and never had a stuck case yet. To get rid of issues with the odd case getting sticky on the expander ball, even though the dry lube was applied, went to mandrel expanders after sizing, they get another dip over the brush doing that too.

I have a bench drill press I just put a nylon barrel cleaning brush in it and turn it on very fast don’t take long to do a hundred or more.

I have a pile of old bore mops I use. In, out, done. When I feel
they have no more resistance. I save those for smaller calibers.

Yes. Decap, ultrasonic clean, AMP anneal, FL size (imperial wax), wipe, trim/chamfer/deburr (Henderson), brass brush (Lyman case prep station), Neolube #2. .284 Shehane, SD typically 4-6 fps across 20 round strings.
