Price gouging happens because of buyers that think it's the end of the world and they are willing to pay ridiculous prices. If people weren't paying it, They would have to lower the prices to move inventory. I stock up when times are good so I don't get caught up in it.CTD = cheaper than dirt.
During the pre 2016 panic. Those two places were some of the worst offenders of price gouging on 22LR, 556 ammo, and magazines... all those items that were not to be found pretty much due to hoarding. It was disgusting. I don't want to get into a big debate about it, but it was gouging in the true definition of the term not just 'what the market can bear'. They will never see a cent of my money.
Well... to be fair, this happens frequently whenever I install a riveted extractor. I always kiss the head of the new rivet on the bench grinder before peening/swaging to prevent this situation. They should have done this. Just knock it out and re install it right. My overall experience with PTG is about the same as everyone else. JGS for reamers. You get what you ask for.Just finished chambering a 300 WM MK13 barrel for a PT&G . Took awhile to figure out why it wouldn't close on a gage. Decided to try some ammo. This is what happened. The rivet is standing tall. Not sure if I can dress it down enough.

I woud send it back to pacific trash and garbage and let them fix it. But it is likely going to take a year with no guarantee it will come back any better than it is now. Time to bush it and install a mini m16 extractor. On the customers dime if possible.
Dave, you need to get away from time to time.I've sent pictures and an explanation to my customer. Heading to mountains in the morning with the top down. I'll deal with it next week.
Damn Aaron, I'm surprised you haven't 3d printed up a pile of those to hand out to everyone on here.Yeah. It's a shame... They have a lot of interesting things I'd like to have but wont take the risk.

It would be really hard to get 3d printed anything out of the mud because of the non smooth surface. I might machine one up thoughDamn Aaron, I'm surprised you haven't 3d printed up a pile of those to hand out to everyone on here.
That’s an upgrade worth paying forSpoke with my customer. He's aware of the problem dealing with PT&G. M-16 extractor time.
slow and low, just like steaks. It would be really hard to get 3d printed anything out of the mud because of the non smooth surface. I might machine one up though
Bruno’s was hammering us back in the Clinton days on shipping…they are one of the last ones I look at and cannot tell you the last time I ordered from them. PV recently put ridiculous limits on hazmat items and I’ve started ignoring them too. Natchez, Graf’s and Precision seem to be high in my listI have come to this same conclusion, except from a consumer point of view.
Make a decision to support a company with goals and values that I agree with, no matter if it costs me 10% more. The only power I have is 1) my voice and 2) the dollars in my wallet. I probably do not use #1 as much as I should, but I always use #2. My money is the way I vote and support businesses I'm proud of.
Powder Valley
Bruno's
Graf's
I will not spend money at
Natches
or CTD
PTG
not a cent.
Back in those days P.V was one of the best, not anymore.Bruno’s was hammering us back in the Clinton days on shipping…they are one of the last ones I look at and cannot tell you the last time I ordered from them. Brunos was one of the worst for gouging when things were really tight availability wise. My dollars are spent other places as I place a premium on being treated fairly. Taking advantage will always hurt a company in the long run. People have very good memories when it comes to this kind of thing.Bruno’s was hammering us back in the Clinton days on shipping…they are one of the last ones I look at and cannot tell you the last time I ordered from them. If you make them as wide as a Jewell trigger, I would buy one from you.It would be really hard to get 3d printed anything out of the mud because of the non smooth surface. I might machine one up though
As a person who is almost always the gunsmith's customer. If I provided you the action I would expect you to either send it back to me with an explanation of the issue so I can get it replaced and back to you, OR if it's something you could fix then I'd expect a quote for that work. I don't work for free and I certainly don't expect my gunsmith to either.WHAT COULD GO WRONG
Yes it would but I'm already seeing the profit on this job declining. If I figure my time dealing with the customer, who supplied the action, I'll probably be in the red.
Thanks for the offer. I think I may have a rivet somewhere.
How long are you willing to wait????As a person who is almost always the gunsmith's customer. That said, if I sent you a new action and you found an issue, I'd simply get an RMA from the manu or where I got it and pay you to ship it to them so they could fix or replace. I'm not a fan of "fixing" stuff that's new, it's on them to make it right.
How long depends on what I'm waiting for. If it was going to be too long I guess I'd get a refund and buy another brand of action if I wasn't already too far into it.How long are you willing to wait????
Everything you said is correct. The problem in this case, is a manufacturer that does not give refunds, takes forever, and has zero quality control. How long depends on what I'm waiting for. My point was it's not something that's on the gunsmith, if the action/bolt has issues then the manu or retailer should make it right, then the smith can pick up once they have something they can work with and of course work it back into their schedule. One thing I've learned is quick and custom are mutually exclusive. Patience is the word of the day.
That said, I learned a long time ago if I really need something then I should have a backup plan. Some items I buy extras because I can't wait. If I was a competitive shooter and really into it, I'd have two or more of everything I couldn't be without. I'm not, so shooting related stuff I can simply wait.
Well posting about stuff like this and who the seller is definitely helps folks know other folks experiences with them. However for those that did do the purchase and find themselves in this situation....Everything you said is correct.
