What do you folks think?..new kid on the block, or just another face in the crowd.
When I first became a member here it was to learn about the 6mm br..I was amazed from the moment it entered my life..the size, shape, performance..can not be reproduced ..
A 6mm bullet and case combination is mathematical perfection in my humble opinion.
I also feel
A ,20 cal bullet in a 221 fireball case is a mathematical anomaly..
The 17 is a bit to light..the 22 a bit heavy..but a 20 cal..wooooo baby!..look out..making the .20 vartarg a thing of beauty..
So is this 22 arc just another form over bore -barrel burner..a kind of magnum craze for the millennials..something with out that nasty scary BOOM!?..ha..

In theory it should be a tac-driver. Basically a .22PPC on steroids, and we know how a PPC in most any caliber will shoot very small groups. I believe this little cartridge will find a niche with many shooters due to it's extreme accuracy in bolt rifles and also in the the AR15 platform. Personally I hope it does well as it is a cool little cartridge. I see one in my future for a little light weight coyote rifle..... Just my take on it.

I've been shooting one for over 10 years as a 22 LBC. The are quite useful on prarrie dogs. I shoot the varmint weight, up to 70 grains, and am happy with it. It runs the velocities up about 150-200 FPS over the 223 and about 100 over the Valkyrie fir me.

I form it out of Grendel brass and Redding bushing dies. Case life is good and it doesn't use enough powder to be a real barrel burner.

In a bolt gun it does step up nicely by a decent margin over it being used in an AR. I use 7.62X39 bolts over the deeper Grendel and have experienced no breakage.
 
I've seen a new company who makes bolt action uppers for the AR platform..this is new to me, but cool as ever..you can get the repeatability of an AR with bolt gun accuracy...ive watched some competitions @ 1000 and there appeared to a similar set up..(bolt action AR)..
With the 22arc...I think we're talking some real frustrating days at the range...and alot of fun.
An option is to just order a new upper and shoot..for about 1300$..thats not bad
I'm not into AR shooting like I was when young..so what's your take on this aspect
 
I don't think its going to be that popular due to the bolt face size. It will likely never be chambered in any factory bolt gun except a howa mini. For it to be the next craze it needs to work in both gas and bolt guns.
 
I built one on an AR15 20” 7T. The new 62gr ELD-VT are shooting well at 3300 so far. I don’t see it of much use in a bolt gun when you can send this same pill from a BR/Dasher/GT or CR case at similar or higher velocities. Ruger does have An American V2 listed as coming soon in 22 ARC. It also has some following with AR15 steel shooters and 77-90gr bullets which don’t work well in a 223 mag.
 
I think it will stick around. Basically 22BRA performance in a factory cartridge. I'd like to get one in a bolt gun because it shouldn't heat up as fast as a 22-250 or 22CM. Basically a good middle ground cartridge between 223 and 22-250 with the wide accuracynodes associatedwith the ppc and BR cases. There are plenty of other very accurate cartridges in this "in-between" category, but being a factory cartridge should make it cheaper to shoot. This will be especially true if anyone else besides HDY offers brass and/or loaded ammo. In an AR platform, it's certainly faster than a 223, but not much faster than a 223 AI. To me another big advantage in its design is that a bolt gun will allow it to stretch its legs out quite a bit more. For those reasons (factory ammo, accuracy, speed) I can see it being a very popular pd cartridge. Personally, I'm holding off for the moment because is like to see more support on both ammo and barrels. If that support materializes, I'll probably get barrels for both a bolt gun and an AR. If the support doesn't materialize, I may still go the same route and just form brass from starline Grendel cases. Since I already load for and shoot a Grendel, this seems like a pretty easy route to go.

As has been mentioned already, it's been around for a while now under different names but it is exactly a 22 Grendel. For whatever reason, Hornady didn't shorten it up like they did the 6 ARC vs 6 Grendel. I've had a bunch of 6 Grendel bolt guns and about to do an AR uper for a varmint/plinker and a place to use my old benchrest brass, as long as it will feed when old and tired by br standards. Big if.

As a 22, it's not far off from 22-250 speeds in a bolt gun with lighter bullets but lacks the capacity to shine with the heavies and an AR platform just ties it's hands behind its back due to increased bolt thrust at the top end. Bolt gun will give significantly better speeds.

Great case though. It's been wild catted and played with for a good while. I've built them in 30 cal, 6mm and one actual ARC per the customers request..the same length as the 6 ARC as opposed to the full length Grendel/22ARC.

Like others said, it's a 22 PPC on steroids.
 
Just placed a deposit down for a 22 Arc prs rifle build. Curtis valor action, 28” Shilen 1:6.5 twist 1.20” straight tube, trigger tech 2 stage and ec tuner brake. Not sure of what chassis yet but leaning to a MPA Matrix. Ordered some dies and necked down a bunch of 6 arc Hornady brass this weekend. Once I get used to the cartridge I have 400 pieces of lapua to neck down. Looking forward to experimenting.
 
I'm spec'ing a new reamer as we speak. Gotta try this thing in a full blown BR rig and see what she does. Should be a lazer. This one will be for lighter short range br bullets and a no turn neck, though. If I see a need, I'll skim necks but I've gone back to no turns as much as possible and even at championship level short range br work, I'm sold that neck turning is a waste of my time until I see something that changes my mind about it. It just works. I'll try to remember to post the print when finalized. It'll probably be a couple of months at least, before I get everything in hand and have it up and running though.
 
What is the brass life like in the 22 ARC? Got a Craddock RTR barrel coming next week. Going to try some 69smk and 80gr ammerman.

With that fast of a twist and 28" barrel I suspect your going to see quete a bit of bullets going 10 feet out of the barrel and coming apart. 88ELD's have in the past have not done well at that bullet speed and RPM, Shorter barrel and 1;7 Twist they can handle it turned out, THat extra time and rotation in a 28" barrel and 1:6.5 Twist is going to be hard on bullets. Report back on what you find out. I would be Very interested to hear how it goes with different loading's that you work up.

The dream is to shoot Sierra 95gn Mk’s @2800 fps or 90’s around 2900 fps. Sierra recommends a 1:6.5 twist for the 95 & 90 SMK so I figured I should start with that. Will definitely report back what I find.
