Cheap, heavy 6mm bullet?

Got a 6x250 that's going to be a steel/fun gun that I need only a solid 1/2 moa from. I've only done rudimentary testing for a coarse powder charge with pulled 108 eldm's. Bullets had deformities from pulling so I don't trust accuracy results, but know my powder charge max now.

Is the Hornady 105bthp still a reliable bullet? Prefer 100-110gr bullets, but don't intend to feed this one premium stuff. Not a hunting gun, strictly big steel targets but need a repeatable bullet.

Like Rick, I'd go with the SMK's however, a few tests in the past,
I'd have you try the Barnes Match Burners for your criteria. They
come in several flavors for the 6mm and I do believe 105's and
heavier.....

I’ve had great reliability from the Hornady 105. I shot a 197-8x with them at 1k a few years back. I can’t recall losing any in my 243.

I shoot whatever is cheapest usually Nosler 105/107 CC seconds or blems for mid range. Shot a lot of cleans with them in the .243 including a 200-17X at Perry once. Nosler 105 RDFs shoot the same as the Hybrids at 1k so switching to them.

He said cheap. So that leaves out everything but Hornady at that point.

I've shot a lot of the 105g BTHP in a 243 and 240 over the years on steel and coyotes. They will hold 1/2 MOA no problem. And you know they're cheap. Like $25/100.

For a few dollars more I prefer the 108 ELDMs however as they have a little higher BC, usually a little more accurate, and they are a better dual purpose hunting/target bullet for me. But for strictly steel and cheap, you can not beat the 105g HPBT Match.

You might try some of the seconds that are offered by a couple vendors. I picked up a thousand 105-106 6mm's a month or so ago that were very reasonably priced. Haven't done a deep inspection yet or loaded any, still in Florida for a bit, but a cursory look-see just shows discoloration. Visually they look just fine to my old eyes. And you did say cheap.....

I've been using 107 SMK in my 6BRA (1:8 twist) and getting good result - several cleans at 600yds on the f-class target
I shoot the 107smk in my 6br mid range gun to good effect. But for silhouette its just more than I need at $0.37+/bullet. With 3, 6mm guns to feed, this 6x250 has been anointed the cheap/steel gun. Fun matches, maybe a mid range range F/Class loaner gun, sling gun, etc. Can't get good brass so no need to spend a bunch just to have fun. Shooting old XMR4350 in it, too.

Though rardoin and I have worked out a deal on some bullets, I still wouldn't mind exploring a few other options, too.

RDF = Random Damn Flyer. I shot a lot of the 140 6.5 RDF trying to make them work. No amount of sorting could eliminate the flyer. Shooting a nice clean at 1K, the post an upwind 5?! Nah, not touching those ever again.

The 108 seems ok, though I only have pulls right now. I may pick up a box of the 105bthp to try out.

I appreciate the help!

try a box of 112 gn Barnes match burners, I use them for rams in HP Silhouette, Cabela's puts them on sale often.

I used to shoot the Hornady 105’s in my 6BR, 6 Hagar and 243. They shot well and for the money were hard to beat. I will say the Sierra 107 was by far the best all around 6mm in terms of cost, accuracy and ease of loading because they just don’t seem to care much about seating depth. I prefer the Sierra 107 and had great success with it in every gun/barrel I ever had.
