My kinetic bullet puller self destructed

My RCBS came apart on the bottom end 12 years ago, epoxy and a clamp, it lasted till this spring, broke in same spot. Picked up a Frankford Arsenal one,
I have the RCBS collet, and Hornady collet pullers, great for big jobs. But if you have just 1-5 cases these things are great. To me, if you just have to lengthen seat depth a little, these are easier to use than a press mounted system also.

I do think the shellholder trick is neat, but noticed some nicks on my case rims from using this method, anyone else see this too? Too much slop?

I have an old plastic headed mallet, that I bought over 30 years ago to use with a Lee Loader. When I am pulling bullets with my inertial puller, I swing both it, and the puller horizontally so that they meet in front of me. To increase the head speed of both, I grasp the handles with my thumbs and forefingers, and then close the other fingers on the handles as I bring the faces together, in combination with a flick of my wrists. Pulling is all about getting the highest possible head speed, and then stopping abruptly. This method works very well for me. To protect bullet tips from damage, I was up a piece of paper toweling in the bottom of the cavity to act as a cushion, and I do not over tighten the cap.

I strike mine on a fairly thick bathroom rug I have laying in my garage. Wife is always upgrading those damn rugs..... I always figured hitting it directly on concrete would destroy it over time, and I didn't like the loud bang as it hurt my ears. Takes a few extra strikes on the rug, but it isn't loud and I figured it would save the hammer. I think I was putting the cap on too tight.

Can't really say why the cap would break, too loose IMO. But most of these things destruct from an angled blow.

After this discussion reminded me about all the bullets I had to pull, I went out and rigged up the new Forster puller for the very first time. Pulled 100 bullets in about 15 minutes and I wasn't trying to go that fast, just a nice steady rhythm. Very nice......
I have to admit, I may have just retired my RCBS kinetic puller for good. That Forster is the cat's *ss ;)

I once bought cheaply almost 1500 rounds of 38 special from a guy who I found out later had blown up a couple revolvers with his reloads.I took them all apart with the same rcbs kinetic puller like 20 years ago.I had to wear heavy leather gloves as I got a bad blister from doing it.It took me about of week of sessions to do it.I weighed some of the bullseye charges and wouldnt you know it,not one was overloaded. It still was worth it to make darn sure that my gun didnt blow up over using some of someone else's handloads.I was young at reloading back then and have grown even more cautious as the years go by.
