Have a Stolle Teddy action with lugs slightly galled and was wondering if anyone can rework these?
It’s glued in to a Terry Leonard stock so would need to be removed.

Bolt lugs are good as bolt not original to action. I can lap if necessary and make special tool to do it. It Is a 6ppc and when I got it, it wouldn’t close on the gage and new prepped brass did not want to go. Put barrel in lathe and lengthened chamber about .008” to correct. Works fine now with no issues.
Just wanted to see if it could be done.

Just as a info, the way Kelbly did their actions was to install the steel insert, and then do all of the finished machine work. The word as they used an interference fit thread, more or less mating the two till death did they part.

This was opposed to the way Stiller did his aluminum actions. He installed and torqued the finished threaded steel insert into the fully machined aluminum action body.

Yes, while I've not had the insert replaced in a Kelbly, I have in the Stiller. 350ft/lbs of torque along with loctite and an interference fit at two locations, is how Jerry did his inserts...per himself.

You sure they aren't just pressed in, some how?

That's not what the Stiller looks like...fwiw. I've just always assumed the Kelbly and Stiller were installed the same way, but maybe not. The Stiller has a smaller step, then the threads, then a larger step that the bbl faces up to. The two steps are both an interference fit with loctite and torqued to 350ft/lbs! The math works for this. Trust me. I can go into more detail.

I don't think that insert was ever in an action... It's interesting that it's threaded though, I would think both the insert and body would be threaded in the same operation...

Either way, if they aren't threaded to the action, I'm really curious how they assemble them.

A mandrel? Everything could be done from the other end, in a single setup though

So, were Kelbly actions finished machined after the steel insert was installed? I just assumed They were since everything mated up so well.
