it's only 10 thou. There would be no shoulder to tighten against. No you cannot use the barrel.
If the thread pitch is truly off by .010 I would not do it. It may not end well. If only the od is off by. 010 that may work. Machinist Handbook could tell you for sure. Tread lightly grasshopper .Hi guys
Can I safely install and use 1.062"X16 barrel in a 1.072"X16 Remington action?
Tks
I think the OP means a "blueprinted" action opened up to 1.072 from 1.062. It might work but be a little loose.
Now I see the rest of the question, On my first cup and I'm still partly cloudy today. This
Hahaha... I don't hate it.Many years ago, I bought a used rifle in 6HLS and shot the snot out of it on 'dogs for 2 years. When I took the barrel off, it had a wrap of Teflon tape arround the tenon threads.
Knowledge is truly a wonderful thing!A .010 oversized on the pitch diameter would not be a safety issue.
Heck, I have taken Panda and Bat Barrels,(1.062 18 tpi), and established a 16 tpi on top of the 18 it to screw into a Remington use as a prairie dog rifle.
As to whether it would affect accuracy can be debatable. I have seen some pretty sloppy fit barrels that shot quite well.
Clearance is clearance. If tightened properly, a V thread will self center, whether there is .001 or .010 clearance.
