5 hours….500 rounds of 9mm.

I was low so I used a little free time to load some 9mm rounds. Old beam scale, old single stage press and an old guy just plugging along. Careful use of the thrower gave me 4.2 grains of W231 every time I checked. Plated Xtreme 124s shoot well in all my guns. A couple nice relaxing afternoons. Just checked my mailbox to find my new 10mm brass arrived. 500 should hold me a while. Where did I put those bullets……….

Sweet!… loading for a competition can be work and sometimes frustrating if your working against the clock but casual loading can be relaxing and fun

Welcome to the dinosaur club!

I've used a single stage press (RCBS Jr.), beam balance, and RCBS powder measure for 50+ years loading 38 special, 357 magnums and for a while 44 magnums and 45 ACP. The modern convenience I allowed myself was carbide pistol sizing dies. I did have to replace my old beam balance a few years back but guess what, I got another beam balance.

These days I shoot mostly modest loads for target practice, 231 is my favorite powder. Meters well and shoots terrific in my very old revolvers. A pound last a very long time which is nice in today world of exorbitant prices and shortages.

I'm getting more into pistol reloading, most recently my 45 gap. All single stage, previously 9m,38/357. I can get the gap with xtp 185's to 9mms 124gr velocities. I have plenty of 45 Gap lawman/gold dot LE on hand just didn't want to shoot what I couldn't replace. Now for some nice weather.

Man, I would say that is excellent reloading 500 pistol rounds in 5 hours.

I was heavily into pistol shooting for about 15 years so I had a progressive press to make it easier. If I had 5 primer tubes filled up it would take me 1.25 hours to do 500. That was my normal batch size.

i used to use dillons for my high volume pistol loads but i just dont trust the powder measures on progressives anymore. i still use a dillon 550 for some operations but use the redding PM for the powder. fill a tray then look in all cases with a flash lite. dont load 9mm butt have a few 5 gallon buckets of brass if you need some more.

Hell, fill up 2! The long sweltering days of summer are coming and I need a reason to stay in the air conditioned reloading room.
I have two progressives but for small batches, I too prefer to charge 50 and inspect before the bullets go in. I have the time. I’m retired.
Add: I just ordered 2000 RMR bullets to try. Only a little more $ than the plated!

Oh…she does. More so these days because the girl we hired to help her quit. Seems my wife is tough to please!?! Duh! Kids these days have no backbone! She does have her moments of mercy, tho, and I get a little time to play.

Heck, I think I've gotcha beat in the "cheap and easy" department. I've been doing all my pistol loading in my recliner in front of the TV, with the Lee hand press and the Lee hand primer. Then, when it's time to charge, I grab my 231, and the RCBS Uniflow Measure and set up on the kitchen table to load my blocks. Hit em all with the flashlight and then seat and crimp -- sometimes at the table with the press -- sometimes back in the recliner.

Now I might split the steps into different sessions or nights, and I'm a Nazi about noting, labeling, and bagging any brass that I put away unfinished. Now I can pretty much go grab a bag of brass that's ready for the next step or the final step. jd

Have shot that load since I have been reloading and really like it....Also love my Dillon 550c but I have never had a problem with the powder measure on it , it stays put pretty good and why I settled on 4.2 it gives me .2 before it's a max charge if the thrower gets off...

Win 231 or tac flow very well through the thrower but I use blue dot for my 10mm and it flows like crap through every thrower I have , Rcbs , Dillon , lee... I was seeing as much as 4 tenths up or down.. because of that I bought a charge master and really like it also for powders like blue dot or stick... I highly recommend a Dillon 550 for pistol or 5.56 bulk it is so nice...The only down fall is its expensive to get started... Those RMR bullets will be my next batch to try... Glocks hate plated...

for pistols i was thinking of getting a 5 station so i could put a powder checker die on it since i like to seat and crimp at two different stations. I wont load without checking the powder charge these days. my square deal sits under the bench. i even used a short wooden dowl as powder checker with the 550 last i used it to dispense powder. i use the 550 now to size-prime- flair and then take the cases out and stick them in a loading block and dispense powder then run through crimp die back on 550

I'm on the load 500 cases ar a time.
I have two Hornady Lock n Load single stage presses mounted side by side. I resize, take the case out and put it in the 2nd press and flare it.
Then I grab a brick of primers and one of my Lee Bench Prime and install the primers at the kitchen table.
Then I charge the cases, seat the bullets in press 1, remove cartridge, put it in press two and crimp it.
I bought several progressive presses, a 650, two 550s, a Hornady AP, a Redding T-7, a lee progressive and several single stage presses .
I am converting my 10 x 14 shed in to a reloading shop and mount these presses up, once a press gets set up it will stay set ip.
A friend might come over this afternoon And set up one of the 550s presses up in my walk in closet reloading room.
I never keep track of my time reloading, it is what it is.

I load all of my 40 S&W the same way. I'm in no hurry and kind of enjoy the slow motion. LOL
