Do I want a 1:8 twist for my 22-250?

Yup, 3,500 is, a Sweet Accuracy spot, w/ 50 V-Maxes for my .22-250 and it's, a "Tad" bit easier, on the Barrel.
So, a Win / Win for me, Plus at that Speed, from my Braked, 8 lb. Rifle, I can "see" the Sage Rats,.. come apart !
NO,.. Recoil ( Muzzle Jump ! ) at those,.. .223 Ai Velocities !!!
Yup,. "Blasphemy",.. I know BUT,. it "works",.. GREAT !
I have been shooting a 14 TW 6BR for 10 years for GH hunting. 4200 rounds down the barrel. 58 Gr V-Max at 3585 fps. Still easily shoots under 1/2". Had it bore scoped by a top gunsmith and he said it looked like about 1000 rounds erosion. Most of the hay fields in Ohio are under 400 yrds across. Good enough till I go to the happy hunting ground. Sighted in for 275 yrds. About 2.25" high at 100 and 200, on at 275, 3" low at 300. I'm sure it would be good to 600 yrds but I never shoot those distances.

Anyone ever heard of a Tikka 595?
Picked up my new (old) Tikka 595 22-250 yesterday from Cliff, and it is a true gem just like seller. I am thrilled to acquire the rifle, and grateful to this awesome gentleman for giving me the opportunity to own it.
…and I was just going to offer one of mine. Glad I finished reading the thread. I have a pair of Continentals in 22-250. Sweet guns. I shoot one lightly and save the other for a back up. You got a nice gun!

That’s odd it would be dead on at 275 and drop 3” in 25 more yards?…
I have about the same round count on a 10 twist 6brx barrel I rechambered from a .243 barrel I bought off here in a package deal, no clue how many was down it before the rechamber.

It's been a long time since I ran the numbers in the Berger ballistics software but I think it's correct. Will check it.

Let us know how it shoots?… any pictures?
Wayne
OK Wayne. I just got it yesterday, so I have not shot it yet. The seller gave me three ring binder sheets showing virtually every group that was ever shot through this rifle from the day he bought it brand new, and load data to boot. He never took it varmint shooting because "it was too nice". I have attached one of the last groups he shot, being satisfied at that point that he had developed a decent load. I measured it CTC .232.

Just ran the numbers thru the Berger program. I don't rember what bullet or fps I used 10 years ago to caculate the drop. I stand corrected thanks. I was off 1.4" at 300. I have not shot my rifle since 2020 due to back surgery. I hope to at least get to the range this summer.

Data for my normal load for GH hunting.
58Gr Hornady V-Max, 3585 fps, G1 .250, 275 yd zero.

I've shot some 40 gr Nosler and V-max bullets in my 1-8" Tikka, 22-250. They were very accurate, and my choice would definitely be the 1-8 twist. I shot 53 and 55 gr Varmageddon bullets for coyotes for a while, but now I'm shooting the Hornady 62 gr VT. I've had really good luck with CFE223.
I have Bergara B14 HMR with 9 twist 250 im tryin work up load with StaBall Match and well it isnt working. How good you getting with CFE223? what charge and oal?

Sweet!….. did he have any idea how many rounds have been through it.

I would love to have a 22-250 in 7 or 8 twist, the idea of a 75 grain Berger with a full case of power in a 22-250 sized case sounds like an idea whose time has come. Well maybe 5 years ago when it could be afforded.

No. he didn't have an idea.....he knew exactly. It's somewhere in all the paperwork, but if I remember correctly, it is 702. The man is incredible! ex attack helicopter guy, long range shooter. He shoots stationary clay pigeons with his buddies, at like 1,500 yards. During his last hitch, they pretty much swapped out the 20mm cannon and trained on TOW missiles. Get this....a garbage can at 2 1/2 miles no problem. I could have sat there all day, but we got turned around on the way to his place and we wanted to get home before dark.

How about a ten twist then? it will shoot the lights better and you can still shoot some of the heavies, and don't forget to AI it, makes your brass last longer, almost impossible to find.

if I had a Lazer sighting system on my rifle I could out shoot Eric Cortina

Maybe, but of course you will need to graduate from the helicopter war school.
From the figures I heard that would mean you are smarter than roughly 269 other guys that wanted the same job. No problem right.

no problem I was in the USMC in MASS 2 in Okinawa in 1976 We would bring the Fathoms in at 50.000 feet on their bombing runs and put a 500 pound bomb in a 55 gallon drum, no problem right? I've seen the guys with the wire guided TOW missiles. Our radar dish had a rifle scope on it so we could 0 the dish on the target(within eyesight) no problem right?

Just 54 in 8 twist to choose from here:

Gotta love you guys! Frederick the Great once said "Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be an ugly brawl"
