Whoa - Hodgdon Powder Price Increase

I personally have stocked up on the powders I needed for my various rifles and handguns, when it was available and prices were down. This included all brands that each firearm shot the best, be it Hodgdon's or others. At 85 years of age and still shooting fairly a lot each week and year, I have on hand ( if you call it hoarding, so be it ) enough to last me at least five years. Which would put me in the age of 90 yrs old. Now if I make it that far and there is some left over in the old gun room, then the youngest son will get it to further his shooting. In the meantime I still will pick up the odd can of powder that does appear at a GS, when I see a price that is now out of sight and add it to the present supply. So as of now these gouging prices do not bother me one bit. And that also included primers and other items that would be needed.
Just like planning for a survival situation, all of us should have done the same and as the old Scout motto said " Be Prepared" .

I am wondering how much longer I can afford to continue centerfire rifle shooting even with my rationing approach at the range of cold bore concentrated precision shooting (10 - 12 rounds) and shooting the economical 223 Rem bolt rifles.

I cut back my Sat/Sun rifle shooting regimen from 50 rds/day to 25 a while back, as I was spending too much on bullets. Worked for a while, but now it's powder that's going to ruin my (lack of) budget.

I have plenty of powder and primers to last the balance of my life for every firearm I own but I like trying new things and will still buy when it’s a fair deal, moreover, I’ve been buying a lot of VV. Even if Hodgdon and VV were priced equally I’d still be transitioning over to VV, better supply of a variety of their powders more than anything. Performance and lot to lot variation is some of the best I’ve experienced too.

Anytime someone crys hoarder I just shake my head. If you like living on the edge, powder jug to powder jug, primer box to primer box thats your purgative but it’s like living paycheck to paycheck imo.

Not counting hunting, I shoot, weather permitting, about 20 to 30 round a week at the range. These are performance shoots, meaning I practice off my shooting sticks, 5 at 100 yards, 5 at 20 yards (range only goes to 200 yards). I keep a precise range log trying to learn something from each shot, all cool / cold barrel shots which is the money shot for a hunter.

Part of the enjoyment besides shooting, is meeting my fellow shooters and just getting out of the house and enjoying the beautiful range atmosphere. I also enjoy helping other shooters that are having problems preparing for an expensive hunt out West or Canada.

I try to help others out when I can.
A couple of months ago I sold a brick of LR primers to a friend for the ridicules price of 33 dollars, and yesterday I gave about 18 oz. of IMR 4895 to my shooting partner. I still have about 12 lbs. of it on the shelf.

Looks to me the prices have come back down to more reasonable "increases". Back around the 1st week of Jan, prices at Midway were at 71 bucks a lb for just about every popular Hodgdon powder. They are now done to the 50-55 dollar range on most, with some into the low 60s. Still nuts, but I would guess after that price increase, when no one bough any powder at those stupid prices, they rethought their price schedule.

I haven’t heard anything about it but I don’t run in those circles too much when I’m over there.

Most of the Hawaiian I know own firearms, of all types. I doubt they would give them up.
I just heard this second hand this morning that the State considers it antiquated and are going to do away with it. If this is the case, I would assume the Supreme Court would have to step in fast.
