I shot this match.
Was not safe at all.
The tractor would start in gear, twice guys hit the starter and had it jump on them.
The tractor was facing downhill towards the river as well, had it popped out of gear it would have been a 1/3 mile ride down the hill. Hang on I guess.
One guy fell off it one year.

No, competitions bore me, games bore me, sports bore me. I used to play a video of a Super Bowel game when I had insomnia. I was asleep in 10 minutes.
Nothing is won or lost of any value. Sports should be played like the Mayans played them, they played for days, the losing team was executed and their families enslaved.
All jokes aside I like going to games with the kids. The atmosphere, the burgers and family time.

Executing the winners would eliminate the “same guys always win” complaint.

Either way. Shooting in matches has made me a better shot and I bet it would do the same for you. Do any of your targets shoot back? Try it that may enhance your capabilities. I practice what I've learned in the field for the last 50+ years, I don't move as well as I used to but I still make hits.

I do believe in Captain Crunch.
I am no fan of the AR15. Just too... uhh... modern for me. However, shooting service rifle CMP format due to a friends peer pressure has really helped me with my marksmanship. And then there is the social aspect. It's great. Just wish my club had more formats.

This was an anomaly by far.
Out of many many matches I've been to safety hasn't been a concern any more so than F Class, BR, Silhouette or any other forms of shooting.

Can't speak for but 3 or 4 on the East coast, but Pigg River Precision, Frontline, Clinton House, and
Coleman's Creek are privately owned. Frontline and Coleman's Creek have memberships. Don't know about
Clinton House. Pigg River has open range days with limited slots, but otherwise not open to the general public.
Size wise, It's a large investment. Pigg River is a smidge over 500 acres.
I did a great deal of CMP shooting years ago, (lost my love for organized shooting since then) but I could not disagree more about the AR15. I've carried the M2 Carbine in M1A1 configuration, the M16, M14 as well as Remington and Winchester bolt rifles. Along with the standard 1911 pistol.
I understand you like older rifles, so do I, however, the AR15 platform (WITHIN ITS LIMITS) in a well-made configuration is as fine a rifle a family man could want. Those limits are well within the needs of family and defense.
It can be downright reasonably priced, (of course the sky's the limit) it's chambered in reasonable cartridges, 223, 5.45 x 45, 22 ARC, 6MM ARC, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC to mention a few. It's durable, easy to maintain, mine in 5.56 x 45 and 6MM ARC are varmint grade accurate. I have ZERO PROBLEM trusting my life to either of my AR 15's.
