Brakleen or alternative

My work buys brake clean by the 55 gallon drum. We fill out sure shot cans with it for cleaning off oil. I work for a dealership. I would bet the price has gone way up, but last time i was told a few years ago it was $580 a barrel. Works good though haha.

I've been using this for years. Use Nitrile gloves for sure. That spray bottle is 7 years old, it always has the product in it.
Wurth doesn't sell to the general public.
Find an a shop that uses it, and they may order it for you.

That's the stuff we use at work. Love it.
I avoid using it on plastics, just from habit, but I have seen guys use it to hose down pretty much anything, including PCB's, with no ill effect.
Isopropyl is the main ingredient.

With all-metal sidearms, I've used the CRC Brakleen product. Gets the parts squeaky clean. Nasty stuff, so take precautions with your eyes, lungs, skin. I wouldn't use it for a general bore cleaner, myself (as there are better products for that, IMO), but in my experience it's fairly effective for cleaning.

Zap and let soak. Zap again. Clean the stuff off thoroughly. Then, lubricate appropriately. Works well.

It will take take paint off, pretty nasty alright.

I think the point is to NOT spend 19 dollars a can. :)

Amazon Basics 99% Isopropyl Alcohol For Technical Use, Unscented, 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 12) https://a.co/d/gPwXb4O

I use Birchwood Casey Gun Cleaner to washing chambers and threads after they are finished. Before borescoping and final rinse before sanding and polishing. It's essentially 99 percent alcohol.

This is 1.5 gallons.

Alcohol works just as well as Brakeclean and doesn't stink or strip paint.

OReilly parts stores has good brake cleaner and usually at the best price if you catch it on sale. They have sales on it often. I think it's about 3 bucks a can on sale but hard to keep up with prices these days.

True.

But you better not be using that indoors without a respirator. That stuff will make you high and destroy brain cells. It stinks.

That explains a lot. Lol!
Not that it's good for ya, but similar is used in just about every automotive shop in the country. Not sure where osha stands on that but just sayin.
