UPS firearms shipping from FFL (me)

Just got off the phone with UPS and they said no special agreement is needed. Maybe I should call back to verify. He said all I need is to show the delivery driver a copy of my FFL and a copy of the FFL to where it shall be shipped. Does that sound right?

Only one ffl is required by law. Not sure about policy. This is how a gunsmith can ship a gun directly back to its owner. He's the licensee. Now, for transfer, there needs to be an ffl on the receing end to do the paperwork and transfer the gun.

Screw Fedex. Just on the phone over an hour trying to find there firearms agreement and was sent to every country on earth. Finally an American told me. I had to have a business account before they would even consider it. USPS it is from now on.

Per UPS site, "Shipments containing Firearm Products are accepted for transportation only from shippers who are federally licensed and have an approved UPS agreement for the transportation of Firearm Products."

Yes, that's the way I understand their newish policy, too. That's enough reason to boycott them anyway. Clearly, they don't want the business. Don't disappoint them.

Honestly, I was a little sweaty, dropping off a rifle yesterday at my local USPS office, everything was in order and I knew it but... couple...3 years ago the local (like historical) PO was... hostile to anything gun related and it scared me, what can I say, went off with out a hitch and the gentleman behind the counter was very helpful.

USPS Policy

Section 432.2 (Handguns) states, "Handguns and other firearms capable of being concealed on the person are nonmailable unless mailed between the parties listed in this section." The rest of the section details who is allowed to ship handguns USPS.

Section 432.3 (Rifles and Shotguns) part d states, "Rifles and shotguns may be mailed by a non-FFL owner domestically to a FFL dealer, manufacturer, or importer in any state. These items must be mailed using a class of mail, product, or Extra Service that provides tracking and signature capture at delivery."

"The mailer may be required by the USPS to establish, by opening the parcel or by written certification, that the rifle or shotgun is unloaded and not ineligible for mailing."

Also: "A rifle or shotgun owned by a non-FFL may be mailed outside the owner‘s state of residence by the owner to himself or herself, in care of another person in the other state where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. These mail pieces must:
  1. Be addressed to the owner.
  2. Include the “in the care of” endorsement immediately preceding the name of the applicable temporary custodian.
  3. Be opened by the rifle or shotgun owner only.
  4. Be mailed using a class of mail, product, or Extra Service that provides tracking and signature capture at delivery.

You can read the USPS policy in it's entirety here { USPS Publication 52 - Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail }

I am not an attorney or an FFL but I do like to show off my copy/paste skills; items may not have been copied/pasted in original order.

USPS policies don't mean crap, because if a USPS employee doesn't want to follow them, or know them, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO. NOTHING And USPS is full of ignorant employees who wanna do whatever the hell they feel like, and if you point out their policy to them, you're more likely to get a postal inspector with a knee in your back than successfully get them to do what their policy says.

The USPS should be tossed into the sun.
