My 6*284 is built on a Diamond back but I didn't realize Stiller made a drop port version? or did you do some custom work to make it a drop port?

Stiller offers the Viper and Diamondback in the drop port version.
The PPC / BR size cases are perfect. The longest case he will do the drop port
option in is the 6.5 x 47 Lapua. No longer. I love the drop port.
Gravity never fails and the ejection has never failed. The extractor
is on the bottom of the bolt & pulls the case back and when the
case mouth hits the hole, the case falls releasing from the extractor.
Has never failed to eject.

Great thread, I’m glad you resurrected it Randy! Some people fuss about old threads but this right here is a classic and needed put back in the limelight.
You have inspired me with your love of the Dasher and your kindness at the ‘Dome over the years. Such a great group in Tennessee, one of my favorite places to be.

This original article by voldoc02 (dang him...Lol!) is what got me to build my first .20BR (picture included). I've had several since then, (lotsa time and money...Lol!). I've killed many a GS at 5-600 yds with the .20BR's, but as hard as I tried could never take a PD (that I actually picked-up) much past 800 yds. I wasn't good enough to take one over a 1000 yds!!
I finally built a .20/250 and made a number of kill shots over a 1000 yds. with the 55 gr Berger (fps: 3830). Best kill was 1,135 yds on the 4th shot. What I found was the Berger 55 gr bullet just penciled through beyond 800 yds. or so. One had to break bone or a headshot for a good kill. I didn't like to see the drag-offs, soooo I built a .22/243 Imp. The 75 gr Hornady ELD-M made the difference for me. It made decent kills to 1200 yds. Fortunately I've kicked the habit of long range (attempts) with small calibers. I'm a maximum 500-600 yd. Sage Rat (GS) shooter these days. 200-300 yd. shooting is my game!!

Running 55 grain Berger’s. I have Varget, Benchmark, VV135. I can get dab of R15 to try.
At this point with powders, if I have to chase some down I would just as soon go with VV. With the monopoly on old stand by stuff that is sparse, leaves me grumbling.

I would like some speed but accuracy is #1. Any advice or recommendations on VV. This is a plain 20BR.

RL15 is really good in a 20BRA might give AA2520 a go or maybe something around 135 or 140 in Viht
The good thing about AA2520 it seems cheaper and easier to get your hands on.

I have a custom 20BR. I load the ber.55 with VV 150,working powder charge to get to 3600fps. vv135 or 140 to fast to get to 3600 with out high pressures. H4350 & R 17 works good with Berger 55. This is with 26 inch brl.

I've never tried any Viht powders in my 20BRA and 55's my recommendations were because of the burnrate on powders that do work.
It shows you each gun is different because I couldn't get H4350 or RL16 to go anywhere with either no matter how much I put in the case.

I beg to differ, a 1000 yards is a long ways, and it is especially a long ways when trying to hit something the size of a 12 oz water bottle, I don't care if it is a little 20BR or a .338 Lapua Magnum. It takes a well built rifle, a good bench setup and shooting skills, and knowing how to read the wind. If it was easy everybody would be doing it.

Have you considered putting 5 on paper at that distance and posting that for us when you get a chance? I would love to see what that little thing could do on a calm day.

I agree. I have been out on days when the mirage was so bad, you really had a hard time knowing just where to put the cross hairs when shooting way out. Once, I was determined to get a young ground squirrel (maybe a 1/4 -pounder) that was "way out there". I pulled my 6 BR out of the truck and got set up. Mind you there was snow on the ground and my Leicas would not give me a read. The plus side was that I could see that little guy against the snow. So I decided to adjust fire as needed, provided he would cooperate. Problem with snow is you can't see the impacts very well - if at all. I must have shot 20 rounds at that same squirrel. He figured I was out of ammo and sauntered back to the hole. And that was less than 1,000 yards - probably more like 800 - still not exact on that. Man - that ruined my hit ratio for the whole day. Still laugh about it. One lucky squirrel. But on a day with good conditions - it is a much easier - though still challenging shot. No sighters going on when hunting.

Try 6 mm Dasher or BRX at 1,000 plus with the 105 A-Max to prevent drag into the holes
