20BR fire forming load?

Does anyone have a 20BR fire forming load with. 40gr Vmax and Varget by chance?

I also have Benchmark and H4350.

Barrel is a 1-8” and hopefully they hold together.

Thanks in advance

I think you will be happy with 30.0 of Varget, in my 20 BR I used the 40 Berger and 30.0 of N540 with terrific accuracy.I think a lot of people will agree that today’s powders burn rates have changed a bit but that Varget,N140,N540, and N150 are very similar and of course should be tested by yourself to be sure how the burn rate works for you. Do you plan on using the Berger 55 later with that 8 twist, how is your rifle throated? I always felt the 9 twist was plenty for the 55 Berger and the BR family of cases necked down to 20 caliber. Have fun with it, should be fun on varmints.

The only thing that will change going to 20 is the neck diameter.
Just about any charge will get you what you want. Seat a bullet and go shooting.
Just be aware, you can't just dump powder in and go shooting like you do the 6 BR. Measure very carefully. If you don't, you won't be able to find a big enough hammer to beat the bolt open. And don't be bumping the shoulders any more than you have to. The less brass you move, the longer yours will last. ;)

Matt,

Thank you for the info. I found a load on the old 6BR 20s page, 30gr of Varget with the 40gr but it didn’t state at what end of the load it was, just playing it safe.

The whole plan is to shoot the 55s, I just didn’t want to waste them on fire forming. This build will be for thermal hunting.

I’ve read plenty about what twists folks are using. I wouldn’t have had a problem going with a 1-9” but I found the 1-8” in the contour I was looking for, M24.

First go with the BR but I’m well versed in the 20-223 Imp, have three and the 17-223imp.

Never had any issues so I don’t anticipate any with this one.

Appreciate the info
