Ohio Crime Declines With Constitutional Carry

Crime rates go DOWN in Ohio after Constitutional Carry. Shocking...this is NOT what we were told by many Democrat politicians.

Wild West, blood in the streets, people shooting each other over parking spaces, mass shootings were what we were told. Same thing we were told years ago about concealed carry.

Details in the article. I was going to link to the National review article or the scribd version of the study but ya gotta ppay to read those. The links are in the article.

I also have lived my entire life in Ohio and lets be clear, the is a distinct difference between "open carry" and "concealed carry". It is true that open carry has been around for some time, BUT if some tree hugging libtard sees it, has a panic attack and calls the local law enforcement, it's a good chance the you will be charged with "inciting to panic". Now this is a misdemeanor, but who wants to go through all the BS? Concealed carry, whether with or without a CHL is by far the better of the two options.
I hope this helped,

Lloyd

Ohio Crime Declines With Constitutional Carry

Makes sense.

The violent felons are still gonna do what they do. They're violent felons; they were already misbehaving badly.

The key difference is, damn near anybody can now lawfully arm-up ... even heavily. Makes it much more likely the average person might be carrying (assuming individuals don't live under a rock and actually appreciate the survival value of having a response to being mugged/attacked).

A far cry from when Ohio first implemented it's nasty set of CHL statutes, back in 2006/2007. Much more rational, these days, simply recognizing upstanding people are, well, upstanding, and they're not the ones really needing to worry about.

Violent felons ought to be on notice. Not everyone is willing to just knuckle under and take it up the backside, anymore. Would like to see 90% or better of able adults actually carrying, daily, everywhere if possible. Would love to see "the numbers" then, if everybody were to step up to their responsibility to survive in such situations.

I must say as Retired LEO and All Skills Firearms Instructor, both at the Academy level and Sworn Staff In-Service Recertification, that I wish this video was available for all my classes at the time.
I have had the distinct pleasure to speak with Mr. Ayoob on several occasions over the years; a Sage among Men.

Thread seems to have drifted so I'll add to it.

I took a job in Ohio in 1974 and got stuck there until the mid 90's. We carried concealed or open, sometimes both. I'm sure the social environment it much different now than then. Since then I've been in the southwest and we carry concealed or open, sometimes both.

^^^^ well said.

I've always thought that the "quarter second lost" by concealed carry is far less of a disadvantage than broadcasting with open carry. All eyes are on the open carry guy because it is not the norm.

Total advantage to the concealed guy, IMO. That and always shop behind the fat guy with the cart full of soda pop.

Any data sold on percentages is sketchy. I don't care who is selling it.

If you had 2 violent crimes in a city of 10 million in a year, and the next year you had one, then you could claim a 100 percent reduction in crime.

Yet, neither is statistically significant.
Your numbers would represent a murder rate of .02 per 100,000. There isn’t a big city anywhere with a rate that low. Not even close. Cleveland, the city nearest to me, in 2021 had a murder rate of 46 per 100,000.

What’s the actual population of Cleveland Ohio? Hint; it’s about 1/28 of 10 million. Do you know the actual number of murders in Cleveland? Hint; it’s about 165 times your number (year 2021). The article mentions Toledo; population approximately 237,000. About 1/42 of your 10 million. Murders, 70 times your 1.

Personally, in the case of Toledo as just one example, I’ll take a reduction in murders of 70 to 56 as “statistically significant.

If your point is to argue the assertions of the articles and the conclusions of the study, numbers that have no relationship to actual data is not an argument. It’s gaslighting.

Great video and very sound closing statements. I’m in Arizona, you can carry concealed without a permit or open carry. Pro and cons to each as well stated in the video in reply #13.

I rarely carry open now days. On hunting trips, among other ”gun people” etc I tend to carry open. If I‘m in the movie theatre, accompanying the wife on a shopping trip, church (yes I conceal carry at church, many in my area do ), at school activities I’ll carry concealed if allowed by law. I tend to avoid, when I can, places I can not legal carry. Including Walmart which I avoid at all cost, can’t stand the place.

In some scenarios I carry open and not everyone appreciates it, outback hiking trails is a good example. Where I use to only see fellow hunters out in remote places I now see more and more people who found the place on FB, IG or by way of their local hiking club. Many of these people are new to the southwest and don’t share positive view of firearms. In those cases I say too bad, I’ll enjoy the right when in mountain lion country, wolf country or bad human beans country. I try to be sensitive and polite but I also try and use common sense.
