In 2 rifles I shot 16 5 shot groups. I had 7 groups that measured under .5" OTO.
My Bergara BMR after warming and sighting from a CCB averaged 0.567" OTO for 5 5 shot groups.
My Tikka T1X after warming and sighting from a CCB averaged 0.720" OTO.

Each rifle had 3 5 shot groups ran through them for warming and sighters.
Both shot groups under .5" during this time.

I don’t know, but I have tried the Black Box and it worked well, at least the lot I got. I have heard from a couple people the new red box isn’t as good, but people say that about the new versions of a lot of things.

I hope the accuracy doesn't vary from lot to lot. I was happy enough with my first few boxes that I bought 10 more bricks.

IME, you can spend a lot of time and money buying RF ammo nowadays by the brick, and depending on what your definition of accuracy is, accuracy varies from one box of 50 to the next box of 50. Almost a total crapshoot. Inconsistent. JME. WD

With mid to high-end ammo I don't usually see much of a difference between 50 round boxes within the same lot. I do see a difference between lot numbers. If ammo varied much between 50 round boxes within the same lot they wouldn't be lot testing and buying by the case

If ammo of the same lot has obvious variations between boxes in the same lot, it's not a good lot. If I was testing the lot and saw variations between boxes under the same conditions when testing it, I would not buy it for competition shooting. You need to test more than one box in the lot. I normally want 3 boxes minimum to evaluate the lot's worth to me, before going in on a case purchase. If I don't, there will be other competitors who will, and if they have the same quality equipment and talent level, they are going to beat you.

I guess, as I said previously, I've never really experienced inconsistent lots like you're referring to. I've only been able to buy a couple cases (recently) usually it's 1-4 bricks at a time. Over the years I've never noticed a big variation between individual boxes in a given lot. Either they're all good or all bad or all mediocre. Not saying it doesn't happen. I just haven't noticed over the years

Thinking about what you said I'm not sure I'd trust the 3 box test either. How do you know the 3 boxes that were tested are a reliable sample of the whole case? I guess it's all part of the gamble in the ammo game we play

I can't say it happens a lot, but I have seen spotty results between boxes of the same lot. I know several other competitors that have seen the same. I have never found that with a really good lot though. There are many attributes to what defines a really good lot. My 3 box minimum may not be ideal, but it ups the chances of finding some consistence through the batch. Economics also have something to do with that number. It is not inexpensive to properly lot test ammo.

As you state Pat, it's all a gamble, but there are ways to increase your odds some. Big time sanctioned RFBR is a game of crumbs. The guy with the fewest on the table usually does pretty good on the leader board.

But yes buying ammo is a gamble and if you only get a couple bricks at a time you’ll always be hunting for more good ammo. Some cases perform well in your gun and some not so much. If you can afford it, buying by the case gives you some legitimate leverage if it’s a good lot.

Buy a case from a decent source and if it doesn't shoot in your gun try it in another. If you only have one gun sell it to someone whose gun it does shoot well in. If it won't shoot in anything use it in your steel challenge pistol at 15 yards.

I have absolutely no idea other manufacturers stuff shoots low left or high center l just wrote it off to being 22rf and rezeroed and shot groups.

From what I've learned about 22rf it's not predictable especially if the wind is blowing it's kinda like dealing with a high strung woman damned if you do and damned if ya dont

As the velocities are similar I think it is spindrift due to diff bullets & bearing surfaces.

Tac22 saves barrel life in my long range centerfires. Now I always bring my annie with me and grab it to shoot while I am letting the big barrels cool. Before I would get impatient and not wait long enough!
