AR-10

My black Friday purchase this year was a big one. I bought a Palmetto State Armory 308. I shoot a lot of 308 bolt action and decided to sell my AR-15 because I don't have a lot of respect for 223/556.
The AR 308 is there gen3, I mounted a Vortex Viper 6-20, Magpul grip, found a inexpensive "chinese magpul" bipod on Amazon but everything else is stock. I hope to get out soon to get some rounds through it. I also sprayed the shiny stainless barrel with Brownells Alumihide wolf grey. Stealth for when I get out for some coyote hunting. 20231202_071952.jpg

What's a gen 3. Is there any continuity to the gens? Are all gen 2s that same and all gen 3s the same? I looked at the new Ruger and it sounds good but what gen is it and is it the same as anything else? Sorry for all the questions, I am not up to speed on the latest. Ive got an Older DPMS gen 1 and its just too heavy for moving around much. Bench OK but nothing else.

As far as the Ruger, it has had gas problems making it cycle unreliably. They also used their own BCG, it's more like 556 sized so I wouldn't count on the durability with the 308.

The PSA Gen3 has a new 5 position gas block that will run any 308 round. As mine sits it ways 9 pounds. It really doesn't seem bad with the Magpul sling on it. It is compatible with all the "DPMS" parts and magazines like Magpul.

Do you own a SFAR? Or you speculating or just repeating what you read somewhere? I've had zero malfunctions in almost 750 rounds. Good acuracy from 155gr to 175gr handloads.

The reason I bought a 20" was because of the rifle length gas system. Maybe the 16" has problems I don't know.

No this comes directly from a family member that works for Primary Weapons. They test many other manufacturers guns.

I bought a g2 dpms compact hunter in 308. Just a little heavier than an ar 15. Length wise is the same. Got rid of the ridiculous slick carbon fiber handguard and replaced it with a Midwest ind. handguard. Put a strikeagle 1x6. Might not be gnats ass accurate but it eats whatever it is fed reliably. And it puts the smack down on the hogs like no 556/223 could. This porker took one behind the shoulder and didn't go 10 yards.
