Chabot Special at Sac Valley (Results added)

Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters will be holding a "Chabot Special" Group/Score Benchrest match this Saturday Dec. 2nd at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, Range 11 (Bob Dorton Memorial Benchrest Range). This match is our most popular event of the year with a little something for everyone. We shoot for both group and score on the same target at 200 yds, kind of like what they do in LR BR.
Updated format reflecting the new targets is explained below:

CHABOT SPECIAL MATCH
This match will be shot on the caliber specific SBS 200 YD Chabot Special target which has 3 record bulls in the center with multiple sighter bulls on both sides.
Shooters using .22, 6mm, 6.5mm calibers will shoot the .243 target, those using 7mm & .308 calibers will shoot the .308 target. Examples of targets are attached.
We will shoot the match in 4-20 minute relays of 3 bulls each with a 5 shot group on each bull, so each target has 15 shots for record with unlimited sighters during the allotted 20 minutes. We will take a short break after each relay to change/score the targets, clean (F-Class shooters ignore this part), potty breaks, whatever.
Total of 60 shots for record plus unlimited sighters. 100 rds should be plenty, fyi I normally go through @80-85.

You can shoot whatever weight/class gun you want, BR pistols are welcome, no weight limit, 30 caliber or less.
We would prefer no muzzle brakes but will try and be as accommodating as possible.
Please try and be considerate of your fellow shooters, after all these are Benchrest matches. Were not used to big boomers!

This is always a fun match, with the 30's duking it out with the 6's for bragging rights, and requiring a little strategy to do well in the overall total. Hopefully we will get a few of our F-Class shooters to wander down the hill and join Mr. Buxton in abusing us SRBR shooters. Try not to beat up on them to bad, remember they aren't used to seeing their shots.

I will send out Bench Assignments Thursday evening for anyone Pre-registered (greatly appreciated by yours truly) and if you come to the Friday morning practice, you can set up and practice on your bench. Please let us know what caliber you are shooting so I can prep targets ahead of time.
Saturday morning:
Gates open at 7:00, go directly to Range 11 check in and if not pre-registered you can draw your bench and get set up.
We will try and start as close to 8:00 as possible (8:15 more likely), get done early and get everyone on the road to beat the traffic! Weather is supposed to be mild in the 40-50's with 5-10mph breezes. (Yeh right!)

Match fee is $30.00, please bring exact change
$20.00 goes to Club expenses/range fees, small group/high score awards, etc.
$10.00 goes to the cash awards, with payouts to the top 3 in score, top 3 in group, and top 4 in OA,
as determined by your place in the 2 categories, lowest total score wins.
Hope to see you there!

Pre registration sent for Shawn and Tom.

Y'all have fun. The wife said I need to stay home to give someone else a chance to win something. And the Shooters Pact we have on the 1000 yard range also applies to the short-range benchrest matches:

Make certain to let the match director win once in a while, lest he become demoralized and quits running the matches. When we sandbagged at 1000 last month, the plan was to at least keep it close. I only let him beat me by one point, the rest of you were trainwrecks. Not very convincing or did y'all just truly suck?!

I don't now, sounds like big talk for someone who isn't even making an appearance.
Guess beating up on us SR guys has just got to be to easy for you.
We will miss your sparkling personality though.;)

"Sparkling personality"??? I like that. Though most would vehemently disagree.

It's a great match and we are actively recruiting participants. Hope the turnout is "fabulous".

Sloughhouse BR held the last CF match of our season Saturday and we had a great day!
9 shooters came to join us and brave the switchy conditions of the dreaded Ione Triangle.
As posted above this was a Chabot Special match, (4) 3-bull targets 15 record shots on each,
60 shots total for record at 200 yards for both Group & Score.
Weather started out with a mild drizzle which tapered off shortly after we got started @ 8:15.
We started with a tailwind out of the SSE fairly steady between 4-5:00. As the match progressed
this switched over to a straight tailwind and then our favorite switchy 6-8:00 to finish up.

On to the results:
Target 1 Score was a battle between Steve (Magic Bullets) Epstein (shooting a 30BR) and LR shooter Tom Hogue who wandered down the hill from the 1000 yd range to play with us. Both shot 157's Steve winning on the tiebreaker. The other LR shooter who joined us Shawn Davison was 3rd with a 152.
Target 1 Group was won by yours truly shooting my 30BR agging a sweet .503 including the small group of the match a .297. Would have agged in the .4's if I hadn't decided I was smarter then the wind flags on
the fifth shot on Bull #2! (I know, I know I'm a WLB). Shawn Davison took 2nd with a nice .694, Steve Epstein 3rd at a flat .700.

Target 2 Score was more of the same with Tom and Steve duking it out Steve again taking 1st with a 156, Tom 2nd with a 154, I snuck in to 3rd with a 152.
Target 2 Group was won by Steve with a sweet .522 just edging out Tom in 2nd with a nice .528, 3rd was Bryn Borras with a ..791

Target 3 Score was won by long time .30BR shooter Steve Raeder at 155, just edging me out in 2nd at 154,
Shawn Davison was 3rd winning a tiebreaker with Bryn at 153.
Target 3 Group was taken by me with a .575 agg, 2nd was first year BR shooter Erik Naka with a .741 followed by crowd favorite Michael Taner in 3rd at .752.

Target 4 Score was won by Tom (I'm detecting a trend here) with a 154, Steve Raeder right behind in 2nd with a 153, Steve Epstein taking 3rd in a tiebreaker with Bryn at 151.
Target 4 Group was was again won by Tom with a great read of the condition change shooting a .728 agg, just beating out Steve Raeder who took 2nd with a .746, Bryn a distant 3rd at .901.

Score Aggregate: 1st: Tom Hogue 617 2nd: Steve Epstein 613 3rd: Greg Wilson 603
Group Aggregate: 1st: Tom Hogue .7025 2nd: Greg Wilson .7195 3rd: Steve Epstein .7673

OA Grand Agg: First: Tom Hogue (2 points) 6MM (BRX?)
T2nd: Greg Wilson (5 points) 30BR
T2nd: Steve Epstein (5 points) 30BR
4th: Steve Reader (9 points) 30BR
Congratulations to Tom on winning the Chabot Special on his first try! (See Lane was right, us SR BR guys are easy to beat up on! ;)). Thanks to all the shooters, especially Steve & Roy for helping me set up the frames on Friday and everyone who helped with the teardown and putting things away, we couldn't make this happen without everyones help.
Complete results attached.
Ya'll have a great holiday, hope to see everyone in January.

I had a great time. Thanks for letting us come down the hill and shoot with you.

This is definitely a fun match to shoot.

Glad you guys had a good time. You did a great job managing both the conditions and the strategy of the match. I’m planning on climbing up the hill and shoot the 3x1000 next weekend depending on what’s going on with my Mom.
Congratulations again on a very nice match.

Go ahead Tom and wear out shooting that killer BRX at 200 yds.

So was that your excuse for not showing up?
You didn’t want to wear out your barrel?
Barrels are cheap, especially if your doing your own!:)
Hope to see you this weekend but I may have Mom.
