Chabot Special at Sac Valley

FYI,
To everyone who has expressed interest in our Chabot Special matches, we appreciate the input.
Match Director Dan sent out an e-mail to our regular participants polling them on the interest in shooting a Chabot Special on Sat Sept. 2nd instead of our regularly scheduled (unregistered) 100/200 NBRSA Score match. Once we get some feedback I'll post what the plan is on here so everyone is in the loop.

Another item that we are working on is a target with just 3 bulls and sighters, mainly to help expedite the scoring. When the scorer (me) is measuring groups and scores and has to wait until the 1st (6-bull) target gets back the scoring gets behind very quickly, I appreciate everyones patience, but I would still like to be able to keep up a little better.
Sample of what we are working on attached, 11x17 so would fit our Std wailing wall.
I have my ace graphics guy Steve Epstien working on it. The plan would be to have a caliber specific (.243/.308) 3 bull target with sighters down both sides as illustrated. 22/6/6.5 would use the 243, & 7mm/30's would use the 308. Any comments feel free to give your feed back.

Samples of new target for Chabot Special matches. Comment welcomed especially from those who have previously shot this match.

Which are the targets for record? The previous card had 6 record targets - I'm assuming the targets with just one circle and a dot are not for record?

Correct, the record targets(bulls) are the 3 down the center with the full (6-10 ring) bulls
The sighters are down both sides with the 3 circle (8-10 ring) ones being for when it gets a little breezy.
Not that that ever happens in the Ione Triangle!
Being BR shooters most of us are wired to hold instead of click. We will probably add an S for sighters on either side and # the record bulls to avoid any confusion.
Thx for following along with what we are doing.

Might I suggest that the newbs bring out their .300 super-mags. Big bullet holes and really no need to ever hold off. Just pound them all down the middle and take all of the prize money. Guaranteed success!!

No problem Lane,
I'll put them all together on both sides of your bench at far end.
Then we'll have a talk about gun handling!

FYI,
As discussed earlier we (Sloughhouse BR) have decided to change the scheduled NBRSA format Score Match on Sat Sept 2nd to a Chabot Special. At the risk of being redundant format is as follows:

CHABOT SPECIAL MATCH
This match will be shot on the caliber specific UBR 200 YD score target, 6 record bulls in 2 rows of 3, with sighter bulls in the middle.
We will separate each target into two 3 bull halves and shoot the match in 4-20 minute relays of 3 bulls each with a 5 shot group on each bull. 60 shots for record plus unlimited sighters.
We will take a short break after each relay to collect the targets, clean, etc. Targets will be scored for both group and score.
You can shoot whatever weight/class gun you want, BR pistols welcome, no weight limit, caliber .30 or less. We would prefer no muzzle brakes but will try and be as accommodating as possible. Please try and be considerate of your fellow shooters, after all these are Benchrest matches. Were not used to big boomers.
Match fee is $30.00, please bring exact change. $20.00 goes to Club expenses/range fees, etc. $10.00 goes back to the shooters as cash awards, with payouts to the top 3 in score, group, and top 4 in OA as determined by your place in the 2 categories, lowest score wins.

This is always a fun match, with the 30's duking it out with the 6's for bragging rights, and requiring a little strategy to do well in the overall total.
Rumor has it that a few of our F-Class friends are going to wander down the hill and whip up on us with
there LR (Midrange?) rifles. Our good friend Mr. Buxton is trying to convince them all that they need there .30 Super Duper Poopers, I think its just a ploy to throw them off.
Anyway here are the particulars:

Gates open at 7:00, go directly to Range 11 check in, I will draw benches Thursday evening for those who let me know they are coming, that way if you want to come to the Friday morning practice you can set up on the bench you will shoot Saturday. If you show up Saturday we will assign you a bench please try and arrive early we will try and start as close to 8:00 as possible, (more likely 8:20 or so), get done early and be gone before the forecasted high of 100+ in the afternoon.
Hope to see you there!

PS: I'm trying out the new targets tomorrow morning, I'll post some pics.

Hmm, I might be able to drop my one of my 6mm's into a br stock by then... if not maybe I'll just shoot some fire forming loads in the f/open gun, those always seem to shoot well.

That's what I shot Sunday in the 7 FatDawg (Shehane). My lackluster performance had nothing to do with the rifle, but a lot to do with this lying on the ground stuff you guys do, & the wind, & the mirage & .....

That 3rd match seemed to mess with people, but once the wind came up I shot my best score of the day! I like shooting in the wind.
I don’t have a brake but I might just put an angle port brake on just for this if you’ll put me next to Lane. LOL

Hey, at least he can't complain that the 9 ring is so close to the x-ring, on these targets, lol! I've got a couple shot out barrels sitting here if you want to chuck one up in the lathe and make a brake or two.

I usually do well in the wind, I think it’s more me struggling with proper positioning etc. I have never shot prone before, unless lying on your back and slamming steel counts. Course I was a lot younger then!
What I need to do is set my stuff up on the back deck and just practice dry-firing. I shot this rifle at the 2022 NBRSA 1000 YD Nationals and took 1st in HG score & 2nd in HG group, so the rifle is a known quantity. I on the other hand feel like a total rookie with this prone stuff. Lucky (?) I have Lane for a mentor. LOL

I practice by sleeping on my belly with my arms over my head.

BTW, nothing in the rules says you can't use a pillow under your chest for support of your body.

Evening all,
Nice morning at the range playing with the beta version of the new Chabot Special targets.
Brought the 6BR with the almost worn out (2250 rds) barrel to shoot the .243 target,
and the 30 BR with the barely broken in (2250 rds) barrel to shoot the .308 target with.
Shot the 30 first & then the 6, mild slightly switchy conditions out of the SE switching to out of the SW by the time I was done.
Pictures attached, I was getting a little vertical with the 6 so if I decide to shoot it in the match I'll probably put the fresh barrel I have chambered up and broken in on it, but the way the 30 shoots I will probably use it at the match, I love the cartridge and the bigger holes help if the mirage comes up.
By the way target #2 on the .308 is a perfect example of thinking you're smarter than the flags.
First shot same place as sighter after 1/4 MOA windage correction? Do I take another sighter?
No I hold another 1/4 MOA & nail POA perfectly! Easy to fill in after that! LOL
The sad part is I'll do it in a match. 200 yds by the way.
Pics of targets attached for you viewing and comments. (on the targets not my shooting!!)
