There were a lot of the old LaSalle Transmissions used in a wide variety of vintage drag cars.

Butch, my guess was also a Arden Conversion on a Flathead.

I still can’t believe the bottom end of the flathead could stand up to the 230 HP that the breathing ability of the conversion could produce.

Saw a couple examples at Half Moon behind inline sixes and eights. Only used two gears.

Instead of hitting the sack we are out here in my garage in the AM putting on the new/used cross ram. My wife took the picture after bringing us coffee.

The post mortem hasn't been done yet but it appears the drive system for the cams decided not to play well with the other components.

One of the first engines my older brother built was a 327 with a 283 crank. We called them a “301” back then. Double hump heads, 30/30 cam, Jahns pistons, and one of those twin four barrel cross rams sitting on top with a couple of AFB’s.

That thing would rev like a die grinder.

OUCH! Cha Ching Cha Ching Al.

Driving the ProCharger off the crank puts a pretty big load up there...even with the big stabilizer bearing assy, they can fail the crank drive sprocket for the cam chain. It may have just tweaked some valves and didn't hole any pistons.

With all the over the counter stuff available from GM and it didn't cost an arm and a leg to build a motor.

My first street motor was like your brothers with two exceptions,a 283 block bored to 4in for 301 and an inline duel four setup. With the 4speed and 4;56 gears it was a fun ride.

The amazing thing is that Mort has preserved all those pictures. And they are good quality.

I have at least 200 more in 35mm slide form which my son has. Converting them to something I can post is time consuming. I would like to do it but we will see.

I thought for sure those were slides, they have that depth and color. I've got about 600 slides I'd like to scan, some anyway, need to look into it.
