What do I do to prove that the gun is mine ? I got the gun in 1979 . Do you have to show the people at Fed-X or UPS what I'm are shipping so I can get it returned to me with having to go through agun dealer ? Had to buy a new gun case just to ship it in .

They should only require a single ffl, going and coming, for repair or replacement. Transfers are different but a gun sent to or from a licensed gunsmith or mfg is not a transfer.

Yes ups and FedEx have changed their policies regarding shipping but it should not affect you receiving your gun back from a licensed ffl for repair or replacement

Just went through the same thing.
Take pictures, record serial #, maybe get a valuation for the worst case scenario.
USPS or you can go through a local ffl that may require transfer. Or, they may be willing to send it out for "gunsmith" work which would not require transfer. If you get insurance, you better have recent valuation for a worst case scenario.

Wierd flaw in the USPS system is they didn't require a copy or proof that it was going to an ffl or gunsmith.

UPS and FedEx?? Neither one will ship a firearm? Sounds like a business opportunity for someone.........

UPS and FedEx will ship a firearm from an FFL but not from an individual.

It seems to me Congress pressured them to do this but I don't recall the details.

Why does the government get involved with things like this? I would think they have bigger issues to deal with in todays environment

Check with your local ffl.

Mine will ship a firearm for me to another ffl for $35 and I couldn’t ship it for that myself…whether it is for repair or if I sold it. Either way they have to record the shipment, but no transfer paperwork on your end.

Not to mention, with the way shipping has been lately with delays or missing packages, I trust that I would have a better arguement against them if my ffl shipped it instead of me.

If the gunsmith is a member, use shipmygun com. They make it super easy.

You can also ship yourself through USPS. If you ship from a FFL they have to ship back to that FFL. Usually they don't transfer it back for free

We have a Pawnshop in Tomball that charges $50 for the use of their FFL.

That comes to $100 in FFL use, not counting shipping.

The closest FFL to me charges a transfer and a fee for shipping it out. It used to be pretty cheap, but they raised their fee beyond the shipping cost increases. I don't necessarily blame them, but it's gotten a little expensive for rifles. It's still a good deal for pistols though. They only charge the transfer one time though when it goes to a smith. They don't charge when it comes back.

Shipmygun is the cheapest option if the FFL is part of their network.

Check with the gunsmith you are shipping to. They may be able to provide a pre-paid UPS/Fedex shipping label from their account that has their FFL attached.

Bollocks.

Just not worth the hassle/risk for UPS and Fedex. Business they can comfortably do without. No conspiracy.

It's more than that. You have to have an FFL and you have to have an FFL UPS or FedEx account. If you don't have an approved account from either one having an FFL doesn't mean anything. For the FFL to ship he would still have to have an approved account.

These moves didn't come from Congress. They were internal decisions. UPS and FedEx are both majority controlled by the same group of people.

I have a UPS account and I only got that secured after a buddy of mine who works there got me a manager who got me in contact with the right person to be able to set up my account. I was told by FedEx they weren't interested in my business. If you have an FFL FedEx account you were grandfathered in but I was told by my local rep they aren't adding any new small accounts for firearms.

For intrastate shipments, it can go individual to individual. No FFL required. USPS doesn't even know their own regs, let alone the GCA 68 regs.

I have been told what I did was wrong by one Person?
I had the FFL send me the Shipping Label to a UPS shipping location.
I placed that Label on the Box and the same location sent it off.
I also had a copy of His FFL and placed a copy in the Box.

Good Luck
