Shipping a rifle to a gunsmith

I have been told what I did was wrong by one Person?
I had the FFL send me the Shipping Label to a UPS shipping location.
I placed that Label on the Box and the same location sent it off.
I also had a copy of His FFL and placed a copy in the Box.

Good Luck

Honestly who knows? The people at my UPS don't even know what the actual rules are, the people in management don't know what the rules are because they were purposefully written to be ambiguous and completely unpractical. They certainly don't cover every situation.

If your shipping label came from an approved UPS Firearms shipper than what you did should have been fine.

It's more than that. You have to have an FFL and you have to have an FFL UPS or FedEx account. If you don't have an approved account from either one having an FFL doesn't mean anything. For the FFL to ship he would still have to have an approved account.

These moves didn't come from Congress. They were internal decisions. UPS and FedEx are both majority controlled by the same group of people.

I have a UPS account and I only got that secured after a buddy of mine who works there got me a manager who got me in contact with the right person to be able to set up my account. I was told by FedEx they weren't interested in my business. If you have an FFL FedEx account you were grandfathered in but I was told by my local rep they aren't adding any new small accounts for firearms.
I was commenting from a non-FFL point of view who wouldn't know/care what the detailed requirements are.

I found a story about the incentive for UPS and FedEx to change their rules. At the end of the article it mentions a "strongly worded letter" by "five anti-gun US Senators".

WELL DAMN !!! By trhe time I get done with this I'll a $1000 . IN A BARREL . Fed-X broke open my package and lost my stub to take measurements from to chamber my new barrel . So now I have to ship the whole gun and the action is a glue on And I don't want to take it apart I sent it to Tooley because he had the reamer that I wanted .

Everybody wants to work around the restrictions and it is possible to put a gun in a box, lie about what's in it, ship it and probably never have an issue. BUT....if it gets lost or damaged I doubt very seriously you'd ever get paid regardless of how much insurance you had on it. Doing it the right way costs more (that's the goal of the Obiden people) but it's less headache in the long run. Hopefully we only have to put up with nonsense like this for a little while longer. I've never used shipmygun.com but I have used shipoutdoors.com and both are cost effective ways to deal with this for now.

Anybody on this forum ever been reimbursed for a lost firearm lost in shipping no matter what insurance was on it and under full disclosure?

Serious question. I have my doubts but I don't know for certain.

I can say this. I was contacted by a Postal Inspector over a revolver that allegedly was separated from it's packaging at a shipping hub. USPS about 10 years ago. Once they determined it was being sent between FFLs it continued on to it's destination after about a 10 day delay. I picked it up from my FFL and could not see any damage.

Can't use UPS or FedEx. Only post office.
There you go again, the gunsmith could give you the label, IF your gunsmith is an FFL (most are) shipmygun.com works perfectly. You don't need to prove anything. You are shipping for repairs no transfer is taking place, and guess what? if you use shipmygun.com IT WILL GO UPS!

As an FFL/SOT, it is not a big deal to book firearms in/out for repair work, I don't even charge for it.

Non-concealable firearms, rifles/shotguns OAL 26", 16/18" barrel, can go through the postal service by anyone subject to the receiver being license if crossing state lines. Concealable firearms need to go between licensees & you have to file a Form 1508. Some post offices are easier to deal with than others, like any government agency you have fiefdoms, find a guy with a license who is willing to help you.

Anything super valuable, like transferable MGs, I would ship registered mail & insure it. Best way to send them, forget UPS or FedEx.

that is all Within the law, I shipped thru shipmygun.com ALL completely legal! read both posts
Not attacking you at all so I apologize if it seemed that I was.

All I meant was whatever shipping method you choose you need to make sure it's within regs. The owner is the one losing out if it's not.
