IBS Rimfire 50 and 100 yard

I.B.S. rimfire matches to begin a trial period beginning in 2024.

An IBS rimfire benchrest score rule book has been created for a trial period beginning in 2024. The format allows for three (3) classes of rifles. Unlimited and Factory classes are similar to other rimfire benchrest organizations to allow potential competitors to seamlessly transition to IBS competition without significant equipment changes. The third class, unique to IBS, is labeled “Custom”. It falls between the Unlimited and Factory specifications allowing certain modifications to be made to the rifles.

IBS Rimfire competitions are proposed to be fired at both 50 yards, the same as other organizations, and 100 yards. A provisional 100 yard target, similar in style to the IBS official 50 yard target, with 25 individual bulls-eyes and 4 sighter targets, has been developed and is available in limited quantities.

Meets will generally consist of two (2) or four (4) twenty-five bull target matches at either one or both distances. Standard ‘best edge’ scoring is used with a 10X being the goal. Maximum score per target card is 250-25X.

It is hoped with the relatively inexpensive, introductory ‘Factory’ class, that IBS can increase participation in our sport and bring in new and younger competitors including those associated with organized youth programs nationwide.

Interested parties may contact Mark Burns at MCGC.22benchrest@gmail.com for more information and/or a copy of the provisional rule book.

This is a copy and paste of a post I made on another forum but I figure it is worth posting here also to get the word out

the provisional rule book is up on the IBS site as a .pdf file. Three classes are pretty much copy and paste of the ARA clases with a custom, an unlimited, and a factory. The differeneces between custom and unlimited are minor in my opinion. There is a Vintage class for rifles predominantly made before 1980 for the Win 52's, Rem 40x's , Anschutzs etc

Both the 50 and the 100 yard targets are the same for all classes. The 100 yard being a appx 3 inch circle in a 3.5 inch square. I don't have Adobe software anymore so the picture attached is in .jpg format

Contact information for Mark is on the IBS site for those whose clubs may be interested. IBS membership will not be required for the trial year from what I understand. Again for details, targets etc contact Mark Burns

25 of these + sighters on a 18 x 24 card for the 100 yard

Circle Rectangle Recreation Visual arts Pattern

edit .6 inch 10 ring, about .25 between other rings. A 9 would be about 1 inch, 8 = 1.5 etc etc Doubt there will be any 250 25X's any time soon. For that matter many 250's even with best edge scoring

Very interesting. no mechanical rear rest and all have to be sandbag for custom and factory class.
I am a little confused on UL rest allowed.
Rests: 48 1. Unlimited Class 49 a.
Any rest, including one-piece rests, may be used as long as they are not fastened in any way to the bench. A vertical spacer under the rest will be allowed as long it contains no adjustments for windage or elevation. The vertical spacer shall not contain any protrusions, which can be inserted into the bench top or sandbag that sits upon it. Any Bipod may be used in place of the front rest. A rail may be added to the stock solely for the purpose of attaching a bipod. If the rail is wider than a standard picatinny rail (~1”) it must be removed if not using a bipod.

Why would a wider than standard rail on the rifle stock matter in UL class? also, why would any vertical spacer placed under the rest not be allowed to have adjustments? doesn't seem like UL is really UL what am I missing here?

No clue, I was not involved with the rules in any way whatsoever and am merely passing on the info. Email Mark, he could probably answer your questions

Sorry if it seems I was shooting the messenger that was not my intent.

nah I should apologize to you, I did not mean it to come off so curt. I was in a foul mood most the day yesterday and was being an ass in general

Just an assumption but I would think they were concerned with people tying to use extra wide homegrown rail as a front bag rider. Just speculating of course

I have an ARCA rail mounted under my fore end for attaching a bag rider so I guess I'm SOL shooting their matches.

Not sure I would be wanting to run with an arca rail without using a bipod so not sure that would be a deal killer. I would think it would introduce too much rocking on a front rest personally.

Not sure why, but can’t think of a reason to even want to do this. We use thicker superfeet at some places to account for steeper than normal slopes, but for me I can’t see why you would do it anyway with a normal one piece rest.

The bag rider slides onto the ARCA rail or I could use a bi-pod that works with an ARCA rail. No rocking and works with a front rest/rear bag as good as a $500 BR wood stock does.
