FOO FOO reloading tools????

Ive been pretty critical of all the high dollar reloading gadgets and all of the "MUST HAVE" tools for reloading. I manage to get some in the middle even if a range is a hard place to find in this end of the world. So after a tune up on my computer, I noticed I had 1450 unread emails. while sorting through i found an email that said I had an unused gift card at Midway USA So I needed to find something to use it on. I ordered caliber specific powder funnels made by Satern. I put the box on the table and went to unload the tumbler. After I emptied the tumbler and fired up a new batch, I walked into the house it a bucket full of 223 LC and decide to test the funnels. When using the plastic RCBS the neck is so loose it scares me that I am going to dump powder and miss the neck, and you have to shake it around to get all the powder to go in the case, how much gets lost in the process? The Satern funnels fit so well I can already see they are going to be a pleasure to use. I doubt I will ever own much of the latest and greatest of reloading tools but these things are slick as a shirt pocket.

I bought a set of Saturn funnels years ago. They fit just right and the top of the funnel is large enough so there is never a concern of spilling the black gold we use. They do the job and were inexpensive compared to some of the glitzy funnels out there today.

I try to stay away from "foo foo" equipment but the reality is some aid my proses so that is hard for me to argue against. just sayin. Buy what you can afford and buy once cry once!

I like most people on here that will admit it have a box of the latest and greatest that turned out to be not as good as the old tried and true thing they were supposed to be better than or replace..... The nicest thing I have bought lately that I really so far like a lot are the mitutoyo calipers but be careful there's a lot of knock offs out there... Other than that and a lab radar crono I am doing things pretty much the same as I have for the last decade.... I bought the lee trimmer that screws into my Lyman case prep station to trim ..223 brass and it works fine i still use my Forester trimmer for bigger caliber brass.... They old school stuff almost always wins out for me... BUT sometimes nice things are nice and there's a reason they cost so much... If I can find something I like or makes my life easier I am all in...

I had the opposite experience with a Saturn funnel but perhaps I had a defective one. Mine was a 223-caliber funnel. I had to hold it in near perfectly in alignment with the neck or it would leak powder, even extruded powder.

While I never had a problem with a plastic funnel leaking powder, sometime kernels would adhere to the sides due to static charge which was a pain. After the Saturn didn't work for me, I solved the static charge problem of the plastic funnel by wiping the funnel with a dry sheet. I only had to do that once to eliminate the static charge issue.

If I believe (and can find corresponding data) that something is better than what I already have, then I’m more than willing to buy it- up to a certain point.

More often than not, there’s a reasonably priced product that does the exact same thing. For example, I use the 21st priming tool over the CPS. It literally does the exact same thing, for 1/4 of the price.

The best money I’ve spent on reloading - and Lord knows I’ve spent a lot - was on an arbor press, the 21st century hand primer and of course, a quality electronic dispenser.

I’ve got a lot of other tools I’m fond of, like wilson dies, PMA pocket uniformers and Sinclair comparators.

You’ll never catch me with a $100 loading block, an amp press or an idod turner. All of these things can be duplicated with slightly more work or a less expensive product.

I forgot to add…. I am very fond of my WFT collection. There’s something about just having a trimmer ready to go without adjustment at any moment.

Many accuracy records have stood the test of time and many that were broken were just broken recently.

I am in the camp that accuracy records were set long ago with (like my) 'old' equipment.

The most expensive piece of equipment I own is a Henderson trimmer. And the only reason I have that is I have a chronic wrist condition. It was a very expensive purchase for me ( I can afford it .......... but I'm retired and am not able to work some OT for extra cash).

I have been reloading for 45+ years (hunting) and have all the stuff to do that.

So, for me ..... the newest stuff will have to wait until I am sure I can out shoot my old equipment.

This is the nicest funnel I have ever used and priced accordingly. If I buy another it will be one of these.

I have these hardcore funnels. When I first started to buy them they were reasonable priced. Now they are, I believe, expensive but compared to a Saturn I'll continue to buy these.
Buy once cry once.

Some of the fancy machined loading blocks, comparator holders and die holders and funnels out there amaze me, fortunately, I don't need that sort of bling on the bench, kind of amazed people will fork out for that stuff. One born every minute though. Still use a Lee scoop for powder trickling, one RCBS funnel, one clear red one ( forget who made it) and a Forster with a long drop tube. Was contemplating making up a wood block for the mandrels, maybe shellholders, Allen wrenches, that's a roundtoit job.

I had a set of plastic flare funnels. Worked well except for occasional static.
I was at Habitat for Humanity and found a Pacific aluminum funnel in their tool bin for $1.
I use it for .243 all the way to 45/70.
That's all I use now. Every time I use it I smile.

I’m not wealthy but I worked for it, so I will spend it while I can still enjoy it. If I think I need something to improve my processes and it’s not cutting into house money I just go for it and don’t look back. Using quality equipment is a pleasure.

I hope I can figure out how to live out my years where at the end all I have left is a nickel. You can’t take it with you. Sign me up for foo foo.

I can afford to buy most of this Foo Foo crap, but I don't need it my loads keep me with in the ten ring on an IBS score target (5 shots), when practicing. At a match is a different story. I don't think the newest or greatest is going to make a difference.

A bunch of guys used to come to the house on Sat or Sun and we all shoot archery at 3D targets or a cotton bale I used for the target backer. One of the guys wanted a cotton bale for his house and told me if I got him one he would swap all his reloading gear for it. So for $60 I got the RCBS kit and a few extras he had. It has been all I needed and then some.
