Disclaimer " I sent email to the maker last Thursday evening and was told i would receive a reply in 24 to 48 hours. They have not responded." I bought fancy reloading powder funnels and just last Thursday got around to using them. Long story short they are not as good as my plastic RCBS funnels and I have returned to using the plastic funnels. I have always been careful to make sure all the powder I put in the funnel gets into the case I am loading. The new funnels have a brass small end that allows them to stand up when I have charged a case. The plastic has flat side so it won't roll off the bench, the new funnels are round and roll so I set them on end. Even after careful manipulation to see that all the powder went into the case, every time I set the funnel on end there was 8-12 grains of Win 748 that didn't make it into the case now on the bench. So I go back to the plastic and all the powder is in the case. The brass end that goes over the neck of the cartridge to be charged is machined such that the should contacts the funnel and will not let the end of the neck reach the funnel and allows a 1/16 th of an inch for the powder to work its way by the neck and end up on the bench. I am beginning to think that the KISS method may be best for reloading and all this fancy stuff is a waste of time.

ebb you are spot on. Tommy Mc

I updated to the Area 419 funnel and am very happy for most of my loading. A loading block that holds the case fairly snug helps a bunch. The only thing I load that it isn't the best for is 22 Hornet.
Also it comes with a nice stand so it doesn't roll around.
I won't throw my RCBS away and for the money it is hard to beat but I found the Area 419 on sale awhile back and am happy I did.

Sounds like you're referring to Saturn funnels. I have a couple and love them. I think you can work on it a bit to help with the problem you're having if you want. They have to fit many different neck lengths and it sounds like your neck is shorter than ideal for it, as is.

I am sure that you are absolutely right, But cause I am loading 223 cases and I am sure that they are more popular than any other 22 chamberings why would they have not made it to fit the most popular case is beyond me. And being shorter than needed on other cases would be no disadvantage. I will eventually find a way to hold it in the mill and bore the brass part deeper. No instructions, no return email even yet after a week. They are a beautiful funnel, but have a design flaw for 223 cases. Makes me appreciate my RCBS stuff even more. The good tools are well thought out and thoroughly tested. I am also sure that i am making too big of a deal about this.

I have several plastic funnels from differing manufactures each one has its place, I have shortened some them to accommodate my needs my 2 go to funnels the clear red LEE and a clear green Flambeau, No surprise turds in the loading block, I did pick up a clear grayish purple funnel from Lyman I need to try next the stem has a notable taper, the bowl seems to be unnecessarily deep I will report back on its function

I've made funnel adapters using the chamber reamer run in just deep enough to form part of the shoulder, fwiw. It's nice that the funnel will set upright on the case mouth by itself at times.

If it is the Saturn funnel. I also wipe the inside with a dryer sheet, but also give the funnel a little tap after I drop the powder in, so make sure no kernels cling inside. I do this even with the old RCRS plastic one's.
Just a habit I have and I have no problem doing it, with any funnel brand.

I think just that tapping of the funnel might be the magic here and the static a bonus. I just haven't had a hard time with mine but I am in the habit of thumping it a time or two with every charge...fwiw.

This is not static. It is not cut on the small end enough to allow the top of the neck to get up to the hole where it needs to be. The way it is cut the neck is held back 1/16 th of an inch or more from making contact. This allows some of the kernels to get down past the top of the case neck and then avoid getting into the case and eventually wind up on the bench. Like Mike said it needs to be cut a little deeper to allow the neck to get up to where it needs to be. When I get the cutter figured out it will be easy to fix.

Yes, I understand. Even neck thickness plays a role. Thin necks work best but it's workable IME, with a tap or so.

Try the Lyman Brass Smith funnel set. I have a couple of Satern funnels; they take up space on the window sill. The Area 419 set is nice, but the roughish anodizing on the aluminum has lifted a case out of the block and dropped it too many times to count. The Lyman set is my go-to now (though to be fair, I don't think I've loaded any 223 with it...)

I know what you’re talking about Ebb. I’ve used the appropriate drill bit to fix mine. Run it in just far enough so the top of the case neck is at bottom of funnel hole as it should be.
