Quite a bit of velocity. What would one gain in performance from a 25 PRC vs 25 x 47?
Speed / energy…yes there is a diff….., but is it enough difference?
Less hold? Less drop?

Great job on your first try at bedding GlennK, that sure is a great shooting hunting rifle. I can only imagine how well a 25 caliber LRB rifle will do if Alex has his way with it.
Been thinking very hard about making a heavy 600 yard gun in 25x47L or something with just enough capacity to shoot the 133 at 2850fps. Nice thread Alex, thanks for sharing.
Tinkered (off/on - mainly off) with a 25x47 LRB LG a few years ago when the BJ131s first came out. Recently tried the Berger 133s and I think I got it shooting just about as well as my 6BR @ 600 yards. Still need to fine tune the powder/seating/bushing.Thats the plan. I have a 1.450 barrel sitting here soon to be a 25x47.
I am close to building a 25 caliber rifle. What twist rate is your barrel? Have you tried 100 gr smk, Berger 115 or Nosler 115 ballistic tip? I am wary of the vld length/style bullets.I would be happy just to know how Glenn got his 25-284 to shoot. Mine is giving me fits
a couple hundred feet per second easily but at a 10 grain powder expenseWhat would one gain in performance from a 25 PRC vs 25 x 47?

RL26 and 131 BJs is where I started with my 25-284. Accuracy is best around 3K but there's another accuracy node around 3198 with 55.0 grains of powder(.5"). It's a 24" barrel and I'm tickled to see this velocity and no pressure signs I can see. Bolt lift and brass looks great. I won't run those speeds but rather the 3000 fps 95% of the time. May look to them on my next pronghorn hunt and do some more load data. For most hunts, I like the 3K fps number with most bulletsOthers have run rl26 and n565 with success as well. I planned on starting with these 3 powders but quickloads was off on the volume and ended up over pressure. Went home and water weighed a case and came out much closer. 7828 was showing promise so ran with it.
GlennK, what was the neck diameter of the loaded rounds?Others have run rl26 and n565 with success as well. I’m having a 25 improved built, should have it in a couple months. Not a complete build, rebarrel of a Kimber 84 that wasn’t getting used. mine won’t be throated for the heavies though, I plan on shooting accubonds 110 and BIB110s. Should be fun.Funny, I just found this thread. But the other morning I was thinking to myself, I wonder if anyone has done a 25PRC? I really like my 257 Roberts Ackley.

What kind of speeds are you getting with the N565 and 135g ?I am loving my 25prc. I have about 140-150 rounds down the barrel now. Manzella precisions reamer is working well. I had the barrel set back because the original reamer by another company was not doing it for me. I am shooting in the .4’s every time I go out and shoot at 100 yards. Have shot steel out to 300 yards so far.
ADG brass, br2, 58 gr N565, Berger 135. Running on a long action. I am 2.380 CBTO -.020 OTL. Coal is around 3.060 I believe.
I will be re checking speed this weekend with N565 and also testing H1000. I believe I was at 2930FPS at 47 degrees a couple weekends ago. 21 5/8” barrel. I also want to check it when it gets in the 80’s and 90’s.What kind of speeds are you getting with the N565 and 135g ?
Is that with the Berger 133 Alex?N570 looks good in this cartridge as well. 3250 out of a 24" barrel. This was 600yds.View attachment 1622165
