Impressive results with Win 748 in .308 heavy

Some say it is a "dirty" powder.
Do you find that to be true?
Not really, but my opinion is relative. After shooting a few lbs of H380, powders I formerly thought of as dirty were now clean.
I seldom shoot 748 since I burned through mine, but if it's like some other powders I shoot, VV570 being one, until you get pressures into the "sweet spot", you'll have soot or unburned kernels.

I've had very good luck with 748 in the .308 but I think it's a bit temperature sensitive. I've gone with H4895 exclusively in the .308. It provides the accuracy (or maybe better) that you get with 748, IMR4064, Reloder 15, and perhaps others but is more temperature stable. My work has been limited to bullets in the 150 -180 grain range, but many different ones.
I thought Reloder15 was one of the ones that's was supposed to be as temp stable as Varget? These are all powders I'm thinking about grabbing a pound of to test out, but can't seem to decide if it's a good idea or not.

I thought Reloder 15 was temperature sensitive but I've been wrong before. Varget is a good .308 powder, but I've seen slightly better overall accuracy with H4895.

I've heard nothing but good about 4895 in the 308. I'm sort of limited by availability and hate ordering powder by mail.

I've got a ton of CFE223, 748, AA2495, AA2460 [by far the best across calibers] and N135

I think I'm going to start a thread for bullet specific best 308 winchester loads for accuracy.

.308 for targets, 168 MK and H4895. ,308 for hunting (elk but it should work fine on deer), Barnes 150 TSSX BT and H4895. CCI-200 primers, but others may work as well. I've always had such good results with this primer in the .308, I seldom switch. The one time I did, I was using the 168 Hornady Match and H4895. Federal 210s opened groups slightly, but that was in one gun only, so that's probably quite meaningless information.

Relative term. What's dirty? I've found all powders dirty and I've tried lots of them in handgun and rifle chamberings. If a load is accurate, how does alleged "dirty" make a difference?

I was using 748 in my lightweight Savage 6.5CM with 85gr Hammer Hunters. Switched over to Win StaBall MATCH. Gained a bit of velocity, decoppering, and temp stability. Win-win-win.

Hodgdon has load data for 180s in the 308 for both of those powders:
