Impressive results with Win 748 in .308 heavy

Friend gave me about 3/4 pound of Winchester 748 to try in my .308. Looks like it's mostly for lighter bullets but Nosler actually has data for their 175gr Custom Comp and that is what I'm shooting. Tried the middle load of 42.0 grains at 200yds and shot this 5 shot group! I was blown away as it out shot Varget that I was also shooting. The 42.0 yielded a velocity of 2591 ES 31.5 SD 13.2 also tried their max load of 44.0 (accuracy load) and it shot decent but had one flyer where my rear bag slid off the side of the bench, 44.0 yielded a velocity of 2768 ES 17.1 SD 7.0. The bad news is I was warned about temperature swings with this powder causing issues.
(picture shows 43.0 but is actually 44.0)

I've shot thousands of rounds of 6BR with 60 grain Sierra HP and 58 grain V-Max bullets and WW 748. You can't get enough 748 in the case to do any damage to the rifle. You could literally fill the case to the top with a funnel, tap the case on the bench to settle the powder, and seat the bullet. Lots of P-dogs went to the big mound in the sky with that setup.

Not sure of I'm crazy or if it's just a heavy bullet thing, but with 168 grain bullets I've definitely run into some pressure [loose primer pockets and very very flat primers] at about 46½ grains of win748.
And again around 25½ grains of 748 in .223 with 75 and 77 grain bullers.
Considerably shy of even 100% load density in the 308.
We are all adults here, but that can be some dangerous talk to beginners. And believe me, beginners do read these threads, I was one. Lucky I never blew my hand off when I was 16

Apples and oranges. I specifically referenced the 6 BR with light bullets. You're talking about two completely different cases with heavy bullets. It wouldn't be safe to load a .300 Win Mag and a 200 grain bullet full of 748 either.

I've had very good luck with 748 in the .308 but I think it's a bit temperature sensitive. I've gone with H4895 exclusively in the .308. It provides the accuracy (or maybe better) that you get with 748, IMR4064, Reloder 15, and perhaps others but is more temperature stable. My work has been limited to bullets in the 150 -180 grain range, but many different ones.

748 has been a good powder for me in my 22-250 calling rifle. I run a mild-medium charge behind a 50 grain bullet. Not running screaming velocities but has been a very accurate powder for this rifle. Sure helped stretch my Varget supply when it was so hard to find.
