That’s what I do… and I’m very critical of myself! They can always go to their your local range and punch holes into paper (with no one around to criticize).

Freedom Benchrest Give it Look and perhaps trySome individuals are not cut out for competition.., and they can use all types of personal reasoning why (including cost, desire to win, drive, family, etc.). As I always say, “to each their own”. They can always go to their your local range and punch holes into paper (with no one around to criticize). Before you ask, I’m 68.
I'm thinking of asking for donations so I can buy a keg of beer and bags of chips. If that doesn't work I give up.![]()

I'd have to agree with location. We have rimfire and vfs matches the 1st and 2nd Sunday for 5 months throughout the summer at my local club. Plus I have a NBRSA registered group match the 3rd Sunday in Bluegrass Iowa (50 minute drive) that alternates lv one month and hv the next. When I can afford it and have the time we'll make the 3.5 hour drive to St Louis. It's great having 1 day matches that are close to home but on the other hand people won't make a long drive just for a 1 day match as well.IMO a lot of it depends on the location where you live. It's a helluva lot easier for a working guy to attend matches in his back yard than 3 states away. I love the competition. I'd like to shoot more group. For now I get my fix on the in and out one day shoots. It feeds the shooting and competition addiction without disrupting home life at the expense of shooting.
i am on a fixed income also, just in case you wondered. Some individuals are not cut out for competition.., and they can use all types of personal reasoning why (including cost, desire to win, drive, family, etc.). Hit the nail on the head, why won't he drive 30 minutes to compete with the Panda? Because it is not as exciting as racing motorcycles and never will be! Your stepson didn't have to fork out the cash to buy the Panda so his decision has nothing to do with spending his dollars on a new horse trailer, side by sides nor a bass boat but more what he likes to do with his free time....not his free money.i am on a fixed income also, just in case you wondered.
it all comes down to choices. do you want to spend your dollars on a new horse trailer or side by side or bass boat or your kids or a rifle.
i gave my step son a panda and he is very very good with it shooting short range. but i cant get him to drive 30 miles to Massillon to compete. yet he will drive to indiana from canton to race motor bikes.
You are supposed to win, automatically, because you bought the equipment, then showed up?I’ve seen this time and time again. A new shooter spends a bunch of money on the complete set up comes to a match and DON’T win, comes back and DON’T win and you never see them again. in todays times people think if you have the best you automatically win.
Show me a sport that doesn’t cost a lot of money! Golf?, bass fishing?, hunting? etc. gotta pay if you want a play! You can spend as little or as much as you want.
We have a 600 yd range Milan, IL. 20 minutes from me and we get to shoot 2 matches a year. Not worth a membership as you have to be sure no one is on the other 3 ranges it shoots across too practice. Van Meter, IA is 3 hours out, La Crosse, WI 4 hours. Wished I lived closer in MO as I spend more time there. I have a budget and am thankfull I can shoot and travel. Just have to pick and choose.I'd have to agree with location. We have rimfire and vfs matches the 1st and 2nd Sunday for 5 months throughout the summer at my local club. I guess that’s why I was attracted to street racing.Local run what ya brung matches without a bunch of stuffy rules have pretty decent turnout and plenty of fun.
Toughest thing I ever attempted. I liked it a lot but I learned it was specialized and to do well, like any other sport, one had to put a lot into it. The man who was running the matches at the venue I was shooting at was a mentor of sorts and a damn nice man passed way too young. Those who followed him weren't nearly as welcoming so I backed away. Being near 80, my upper body strength is gone and it was tough to do so I sold most of my stuff. Liked it a lot thoughFunny thing is I’ve heard the same thing about people not shooting silhouette… costs a third of that to play. part of the problem is people just don’t do physical/outside stuff as much anymore.
I feel the opposite. I prefer 0ne day matches. At the cost of motels now a day and restaurants, gas has become easier for me to do and I don't want to give up all of my weekend to shooting. At Manatee we went with 2 days matches for that reason out of towners don’t want to travel for 1 day matches I welcome all you to come to sunny Florida in the winter months and shoot with us and become part of our great shooting family.
