P-dog day...same ol stuff.

A good pal & I just ran 357 rounds into the p-dogs again today.
Nothing fancy, but they were out in force in this spot that does not get shot in a lot since everyone is required to walk in at least 1 mile & its not for the faint hearted.
Many doubles & triples today & hundreds for tonight's coyotes or other predators.
The more we shot, the more that popped up, (realy dumb young ones) nothing was more than a 300 yard shot and we could see hundreds more past that waiting for some lead filler.
My .223 and my pals .220 swift were burning up in the 90* temps, lucky we had a flowing creek by us and I took a tee shirt sliced it and soaked it in the creek, then wraped it over our bbls. and a bottle of creek water to keep them wet.
I could of taken many pictures of split p-dogs, but they are all the same to me these days.
We took 4 bottles of water each to keep fresh & still ran out due to the heat & very warm light winds. We started to soak our shirts & hats in the creek to stay cool & somewhat hydrated in those 6 hours.
The picture is a new town that was not there 2 yrs ago and runs at least 3/4 mile up that gully to the right.
This is a spot I sent Bill off this site to this when he was out earlier this month in which he had fun shooting them out of.
I have run a tad under 4k rounds into them so far this year also.
My load is the 50g vmax in front of w748 at 3300 fps in the .223 Savage
My pals load is the 55g vmax in front of w760 at 3800 fps in his Ruger mkII varmint rig w/Benchmark bbl & nitrated.

I think a lot of us could enjoy the "same ol stuff" every chance we could get! Looks like a great area for shooting close or as far as you would want. Great picture! :)

Gee that looks like fun. No trees either, except near that creek. I had to stop shooting because my bbl was so darn hot. :)

Hey ya Bill....I was wondering if you made it back safely...you did.
Glad you could rub some out from there also.
I have dipped the entire gun in the creek to cool it down many times after taking the bolt out.
Plastic stocks are nice that way& a fast bbl wipe & back to action.

Good day for me all alone up there.
231 rounds into them again w/ a hand full of doubles & a few triples.
Like last week, humid/hot/dry winds & was happy for the running creek to dip the gun & head wrap in to keep a bit coolish.
Bbl burned darn hot for most of that time so I just poured water from the creek I put in a bottle over the bbl in which I had a old tee shirt wrapped around to keep it wet.
I have to look into making a water jacket I think!....... 8)

You can take a small battery powered fan in a housing with a plastic tube inserted into the bbl for cooling. Probably need 2 guns 1 to shoot and 1 cooling.

Sorry Webster, but l respectfully disagree... 5spd's 2013 prairie dog assault is HISTORY. l love history as much as l love shooting. @ 77, history is about all l have left .
PLEASE please Mr Moderator. Don't erase Accurate Shooters' history
Thanks.
