20x45 and its 1st p-dog outing.

Had my new 20 practical, Savage build of course out today on p-dogs. Scope is the Nikon 4.5-14 SF, mildot, buck master.
My starting load was the 30g berger in front of BLC2. Over all I was not impressed with the splat factor even at 3671 fps. Accurate as heck though. It would open them up w/ a side body hit though. Not one was split in 2 though like in my .223 w/50g vmax at 3300 fps.
My next load was the 40g berger in front of H335 at 3583 fps, better splat & more accurate for 400+ yards. Opened them up pretty good overall from 90 to 300 yards
Last load was the 40g vmax in front of H335 at 3761 fps, very nice spat factor of them all and I was able to shoot 679 yards w/consistant hits after I got it dial in on them (5 dead p-dogs at that range) Opened them up 2x better than the Berger 40g also IMO.
We were awful lucky as the winds were just slight breezes today.
We also draped a cut up tee shirt we keep wet w/water over our bbls to keep them cooled down as usual.
A few of you all will recognize the place from sending you to it.
Yes its still packed w/p-dogs, You all & I have not hurt them one bit!
Total shots into p-dogs this year so far is 4973....down about 2k from same time last year due to more coyote shooting this year.

Sounds like a great day of shooting to me! Most of the little buggers around here where I live seem to be stayin under ground as it's been a very hot summer here. Very unusual hot weather this year. I shoot a 30 grain berger in my 17 rem and splat factor does diminish at the longer ranges for sure. The v-max does seem to tear em up a bit better for me too. Great pics...but ya might let us see a few of yer targets too.......LOL :)

I was going to take pics of the "results" but figured we all know what they look like after being punched out.
Going back out to a local ranch today.

Try the 34g Dogtown/VNE, they blow 'em up good and are CHEAP. Gonna be useless with big winds and long yardages though.

Pic added today in my other 20P post for you all...:)

Im already thinking of selling the bbl and components.

Down here in RS I may have kilt the very last Pdawg. I aint seen one in a few weeks now. Dry as a popcorn fart around here.

Jim, thanks for the report. Sounds like a very accurate round and new rifle.
600+ with . 20 cal is a ways. I'd think you must have had mirage pretty bad that far out. Or maybe not at 14X
I was only going out to 400 or so when I shot there. 6X47 with 105 amaxes really flipped em tho. Also some 88 Bergers, made em hop up a ways. Vmaxes are hard to beat. One of the best places I have ever shot and really beautiful country, wild and unspoiled esp. up north, 30-60 miles. You send a lot of lead downrange! Happy shooting to you in WY.
