Savage bolt lift kit

I'm not familiar with every kit, generally if something is inserted then something must be removed or the firing pin fall is longer. This can be achieved by removing a corresponding amount from the face of the BAS screw which holds the bolt assembly together.

Or, a spacer washer can be installed, Or You can get the kit that replaces the BAS with the one with the adjustable set screw.

But I simply remove the difference from the Cocking Sleeve

Not complaining at all. Just stating facts. A Savage action will NEVER be as smooth as my XP 100!! I've tried, more than once.

Got one!! It's a Remington XP 100. Smooooth as silk.

Got 5 Savage rifle/actions now. Isn't that enough?
And with ALL the $$$ you throw at them, in the end, it's STILL a Savage. Just not as smooth as the XP action and never will be.

and no real fix!! Don't feel embarrassed at all, just looking for a better mouse trap. Not thinking there is a "quick fix". Many have tried with no luck. Close but no cigar. They DO get points for trying.

Because I can do a barrel swap/caliber change without tying the gun up with a smith for "who knows how long" and the Savage is a perfect test bed.

Years ago I bought an action from Sharpshooter which he had trued and timed using his trigger. It was a really smooth action that I regret selling. It can be done.

Most of the kits now have a spacer that goes under the head of the BAS to lessen the tension on the firing pin spring. The BAS in turn rides on a bearing assembly added to the cocking sleeve.

Older version, a 38 Special case head with a ball bearing in the primer pocket that fits in the cocking sleeve that the face of the BAS rides on.

I have not heard of anyone else who did. But as NCM alluded to, and other’s have started, it doesn’t change the world anyway. Savages gain their benefit from the Floating Bolt Head.

But I think I’ll try something new and DIGRESS

I just have a hard time with how SSS handles customer service. Tried to get a trigger in one years ago. Almost impossible to get to talk to those folks. That just really rubbed me the wrong way.

One man shop. Time on the phone gets less work done. Email will get answers, when they have time. No issues after 10/15 + years of their service.

Firing pin fall does not change with the addition of a lift kit or the external shim.
The location of the cocking pin, not the cocking sleeve sets pin fall.
Running the cocking pin nut down shortens the pin, increases pin fall, but also spring preload.

Pin spring preload with a Lift Kit is compensated by the external shim (or shaving the BAS).
