with jewell out of business(for the near future), what are BENCHREST shooters using for triggers?

Bix triggers are hugely over priced and every one i have installed for customers has has some kind of failure and had to be sent back to Bullet Central or at the least spend time on the phone with them diagnosing a problem. Only problems i have ever had with a Jewell is customers getting cleaning products or oil in them and gumming them up. I have only had to take one apart only because of the severtiy of the gunk in the trigger. Now i just throw them in a sonic cleaner and blow them out and lube them with charcoal lighter fluid and blow them out wiith compressed air after as per their recommendation. I hope they get their situation figured out so we don't have the pay $200 more for a trigger that ain't $200 better.

I've been running 6 TacSport Pro 2 Stage on 6 of my TL3 and 1 on my RimX for quite a few years now. Switched all from Jewell. I've never had a single failure or issue with any of mine. I also know a few shops that have installed many of them on rifles without any issues what so ever.

What specific issues were you having? Did you use their chart to match the correct sear with the action you were installing them on or just install them with the medium sear they come with out of the box??

I've worked with the folks over a Bullet Central to have all my triggers shipped with the correct height sear for my actions which they are glad to swap before shipping....and had their guy tune my triggers to exactly how I wanted them all before shipping ( 1st stage length of pull, 2nd stage pull weight)... I'll admit, with all the adjustments I could never get them adjusted the way the guy at Bullet Central tunes them...but I've yet to have a single issue with any of mine.

Trying to do some research on issues with Bix & Andy triggers. Just shot our state championship match and had a major failure on the new B&A trigger. Half way through the first string, it quit working. Had to open the bolt more than once to try to reset the trigger(up to three times) sometimes it would fire, sometimes not-or it would fire on releasing the trigger. Upon disassembly, under a magnifier, there was absolutely no contamination of any type. It was actuating at 4oz. Put in the light trigger spring to 1 oz. Really concerned that this cleaning will not help. I don't have Alex Wheeler's procedure on polishing the contact surfaces. Recommendations?

Trash, the least bit of oil, will cause problems. I experienced the same thing. Never saw what caused the problem so I assumed it had to be moisture. Cleaned the trigger and polished per Alex’s instructions and have had zero problems since.

It amazes me that you have to put out that kind of coin for a trigger and then learn the process to make it right.......
I would say “make it better.” Even without polishing the contact points per Alex’s instructions, the B&A functions fine and broke cleaner than the Jewell. Of course, it’s all a matter of feel. I run both Jewell and B&A triggers. I have zero complaints with either.

I have a spare B&A that I bought to replace a Jewell on a 30br. It’s been sitting in the box over a year and I just have not seen the need to change.

I've seen the exact issue being described more than once with misadjusted BNA triggers.

I have six Tac Sport Pro 2 stage all properly adjusted in house by Bullet Central to my desired LOP and 2nd stage break and I've never had a single issue over 100,000 plus rounds but Mis-adjustment I have seen that exact issue

Who wants to bet that when/if jewel comes back there will be a SIGNIFICANT price increase……
Well, considering their website account has been suspended, a comeback is not looking too good at the moment. I hope they get things turned around because I like their triggers and have a bunch of them in F-TR competition rifles. However if they don't come back, I will have to replace any Jewell trigger that fails if/when it happens. I've had a couple fail over the years that had to be replaced, but I also have a couple that are going on 14 years old that are going strong. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I’m not sure if this is appropriate on this thread since it’s about Jewell triggers, but with the talks about BnA issues I felt like I’d share my experience. With the typical failure to fire, or the inconsistency of fire, I’ve found the pivot point cleanliness as the culprit. Including a couple of pictures of what was felt like a “clean” one until further inspection.

I started this thread to find out about similar experiences concerning Bix&Andy triggers. I have several Jewell triggers in competition rifles, they are great. But I am having trouble with the B+A triggers in one of the F-Open rifles. Does anyone have the link to Alex Wheelers fix/ technique?

Another option:

I also have Shilen triggers, both do rather well. But to be honest, none are exactly BR rifles, although they think they are at times.
I actually got one of these delivered on Monday, I like the way it feels there is play in it after the trigger pull although I can’t compare it to a jewell because mine is waiting on its action. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet but I have been dry firing for the price I’m happy with my purchase

Do you have Alex Wheeler's procedure or link?
