1/4 MOA Sabatti Rifle Claim -- Tunnel Test

I saw a Sabatti video last week saying they have shot 50,000+ shots through a 270 wsm while still maintaining good accuracy
That'd be one of those new Kryptonite barrels. They never wear out. :)

Sabatti made some nice double rifles in years past. By nice I mean not too far out of my price range rather than most of them which are the price of a high end car or even a house. 5K range for the Sabatti if memory serves.

He is not free recoil shooting, so the bag alignment is a non issue, it appears he is squeezing the rear bag to obtain the proper sight picture, at least he is with the first rifle off of the bipod.

This is obviously an accurate Factory offering. Whether it is worth $2500 is up to the individual Buyer.

I have personally shot a Factory Savage 308 F Class that would put 5 shots between 3/8 and 1/2 inch shooting over flags. I considered that a pinnacle of Factory performance.

Well that doesn't surprise me since they're using "multi-radical" rifling which unlike conventional cut or polygonal rifling "doubles it"- doubles what? I don't know but it must be on the breaking edge of technology where it cannot be fully explained to the average person without an MIT degree.

One would think this guy with all his resources available to him (especially a tunnel) would have learned some BR basics -one of which is to line up the rear bag with the front rest. Apparently he thinks he is using an Edgewood with twisted ears.evfa
Also, that is not my definition of "same hole" and why 3 shot group evaluation?
Evaluating this rifle like it is a custom benchrest rifle is not a fair comparison. I was highly impressed with the fact that he shot 3 groups all under .32 MOA with factory ammo. This is ridiculously hard to do and I’d like to see someone take two separate brand new Tikka’s or CA’s and repeat the test, WITH factory ammo that you are not sure if the gun even likes or not. I’d love to see it.

well mine isnt a 1/4" moa at a match. this is 20 shots (rapid, for like 10 minutes) at 500 meters, with heavy heavy mirage, no good spotter or working camera, with my parallax left at 300 meters setting. no factory ammo though. 5 and 10 shot groups gave 0.3 moa at testing's before this. and its not bone stock, I added a adjustable butplate, custom trigger, and repainted stock :)

Factory ammo .25 MOA groups are few and far between. Especially when you don’t test 20 different ammos to see which one the rifle really likes best.

Does the Sabatti action feature a barrel extension that causes the bolt lugs to lock in the barrel it’s self rather than in normal abutments in the action body?

A factory gun with factory ammo shoots .25 MOA and tons of griping.
Oh brother…
Yeah, it's a pretty tough crowd around here. ANYTIME that I shoot a .25 MOA is a good day. Tells me I must be doing a few things right. I've finally got a rifle that will do the job, but me, my bench technique, and skanky old brass make us more of a .5 MOA proposition. I'm OK with that, and the guys that I sometimes shoot with think I'm great. jd

1/4" 100 yd 3-shot groups are meaningless. What matters is how it shoots at distance--say 500+ yds. At least 300. Three hundred yds at least seems to eliminate the 100 yd lies some rifles tell, though it's best to do load development at the max distance you plan to shoot.

We have had many one-hole 100 yd groups, with low ES and SD, shoot 12" plus at 500 to 650 yds. We only trust groups at longer ranges.

When we are doing load developments, and these are primarily hunting rifles, once we get close to 1/2" at 100 yds, we then finish load development at 650 yds. We usually find sub 1/2 MOA 3-shot groups at 650 yds.

Now if this as a short range BR rifle......then a 1/4" 100 yd 3-shot group is still meaningless. It needs to shoot much better than that....

According to Gene Beggs -even in a well designed tunnel the conditions have to be monitored very closely to minimize mirage. FWIW I blame all my flyers on mirage too.

Those tunnels usually also have very strong fans/extractors above and in front of you that can catch you out with "wind".

I didn't watch the video but unless its a new generation Sabatti we have a couple around here and when they shoot they really do shoot but there has been one or 2 complete duds that I know of

Italian made guns leap some bounds ahead on some of their machining. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss it.
