The one powder....

H4895 is also my favorite for the cartridges listed but a close second in my book and generally available and cheaper than most is IMR4064. Try it, it may surprise you.
+1^^^^ absolutely.

Another powder that I shot some very nice groups with in fireforming and practice with the 6br 8tw was WW748. It is(was) a bit temp sensitive to use in matches, but just generally shooting it was quite good. YMMV. JME. WD

Here is a list i put together when powders scarce.

6bra powders
Varget, R15, N203B, H4895Â,
N540
CFE223 32gr start.

I’d definitely add R16 to that list
It’s doing a nice job for me.

I have used mostly RL16 and Varget. I have 4 lbs of 15.5. I either buy another 8 lb of Varget, vv n150 , or close my eyes and order RL16. I have already started building a 22 brai, as 6mm components are so hard to find. My matches are basically 1 to 1-1/2 moa steel plates@ 2,3 4 and 500 meters. 1 found 1000 85.5 Berger hybrids for $380.00., 300 Lapua 6mm br brass I can size down, and around 5k of primers.....I love my 6 dashers, and had planned a 6br....but the situation dictates differently...rsbhunter

I know it's a longshot but I have RL15, RL15.5 and RL16 (16lb of each powder)
Looking to trade for H4895 only, face to face.
I'm in SW Florida but will travel to 600yd Piedmont match 8/12-13 and 600yd Nationals at Vapor Trail in late September.

If you could only have 1 powder in the reloading room for 6br, Dasher, bra, etc. Using 105-109 gr bullets, what would it be? Seeing as powder is up to $60.00 a lb. (rl16) and being retired, the cash river is more a trickle, I have to find a powder that will be the best fit for the 6mm cartridges I shoot....I know there isn't just 1, but if restricted to 1, what would it be? Thanks for any input, the knowledge here is what I trust....rsbhunter
I have used a 6BR for about 8 years (same rifle but 3 Hart barrels) but this year I had a switch to a 6 Dasher always used varget (field of fire 300 and 400 yds) I tried RL16 last week because I read that RL16 burn rate was more forgiving to throat erosion. And I had my smallest 400 yd group ever. unable to measure it because I turned in targets for score but a little under Inch 5 shot group. The barrel has 1200+ round count. Gary

I switched from Varget to RL16 because of the carbon ring ( both do it), and won a match with it. Then, RL16 became scarce, and varget was available. Shot a group with same components, except powder. Varget honestly shot a group HALF the size!...I shoot RL16 in my Norma brass chambered Dashers, and Varget in the Lapua brass 6 dasher.... have a feeling I will be going a different route once these powders are used up...rsbhunter

I use to use N150 quite a bit and for some reason I can’t remember switched to Varget for 6BR, BRX and 308. I’m tired of the Varget game and am using up an 8 lb jug of H4895. Once that’s done it will be N150 and or IMR4064. Yes I will have to adjust charges some for summer winter, but I have to do that anyway with Varget and H4895 here in Phoenix. N150 and 4064 have always given me great results. I really am trying to get away from the ADI powders. Tired of the lack of availability, 8208 is good but again, not available.

And to be honest, 3031 has always given me great results in 308, but it is even more temp sensitive. So N150 or 4064 and I can shoot up my 3031 in the winter.

Dfry, I'm in the same deal, S. E. New Mexico. We've been 103-112° for the last month, and showing 100+ for the foreseeable future...I'm thinking N150 might be the lesser of evils....might just suck it up, buy 16 lbs and call it good. Good thing about being older, the cost of a lifetime supply diminishes daily!!!! rsbhunter

Hehe, amen to that! Yeah n150 is the first of the VV powders that got the temp treatment. Many years ago when I lived in Yuma our last xtc match for the summer was June and 115-120 by the end of the match. I shot the older N150 then in my service rifle and just adjusted for the summer and never had a problem. The newer stuff is a lot less temp sensitive. I am just sick of Varget being unobtainium and now the Hodgdon extreme powder are to expensive even if they are available!

I don't mind any company making a profit, but the way pricing is going, I expect to be bought dinner first ! $500.00 for 8lbs of rl16 including hazmat, freight and tax. I'm hoping they make it now....because people will cut back eventually....or, they will rescind our right to bear arms, and won't have a need for any of it....I only shoot matches anymore, no practice at all.....but at least I get to shoot 3 matches a month, temperature permitting...rsbhunter

I might have to try the XBR , I have some on hand. The way the gun ownership battle is going, I might start hoarding shiny , round rocks for the sling shot I buy, if by the grace of his majesty, the king, will allow it! rsbhunter

boltman13, I have considered trying that. Can you please tell me the benefits or advantage of the precision powder over Varget? I know the precision used to be a good deal cheaper, but because of the similarity, it's right at the same price...any insight would be great, thanks, rsbhunter
