New Lathe

Here is my new lathe I just picked up yesterday. It is an Acer 1440E Taiwanese. It has a Newall DRO and a Mitsubishi VFD.

It is a 1998 two owner. It was only used for chambering. It was originally owned by two different gunsmiths that are pretty well known. It is absolutely cherry and shockingly clean. It's the exact perfect size that I wanted.

Nice looking machine and I agree, it's about the perfect size. I've got a Taiwan Jet 1340 and a South Bend Heavy 10. The SB is a sweet little machine but lacks size, is belt drive and is slow. I think you'll like that one.

I do have one question. I'm going to have to store the chucks for a little while waiting on my building to be built here at my house. I was wondering the best way to store them so that they still look perfect like they do. I was thinking I would hose them down with CLP and put them in boxes with paper packing or I could wrap them in plastic wrap after hosing them down I thought that might work good too.

Nice!
I have a 2021 Dynamic 1440G. If the quality of the E is anything like the G you'll be happy with it. Looked real hard at PM 1440GT, and the Dynamic G has a bit more going for it for roughly the same $$. Almost 3" more bed width for one thing.
Enjoy

When I use to race I always used LP3 to store camshafts and other engine parts in my old garage and shed. Had a lot of temp change and this stuff worked great. Puts a heavy wax type coating on . You can just order through a lot of online sources or at some auto stores.

That’s a nice looking lathe

1.5” spindle bore?
Looks like a really narrow distance from either end of the spindle as well.

congrats

yep looks just like the 1440gt

use engine fogging oil for long term storage of your parts

I ordered some fogging oil.

Thinking about trying this stuff also

If I coat the parts can I put them in a box wrapped in shrink wrap?
