Hey all,

The Background: Just picked up my first bolt gun, a 2020 Waypoint in 6.5 CM, and a Nightforce NX8 4-32x50 ideally to get into PRS and a little deer hunting with.

The Question: What would be better to mount my scope with, the Burris XTR Signature Rings or Nightforces own Ultralight rings and lapping them? I have never lapped rings before as I am new to this but am willing to give it a go if it seems to be the better method.

Thank you! Phill

I use the Burris so i can orient the elevation at less than 1 turn off the bottom. This then gives me a zero stop and almost the full elevation for long distance.

I have never had a scope slip with these rings
Thanks for the tip. I never thought of using the inserts to aid in resetting after dialing.

I've been thinking of contacting my representatives and asking for a law specifying that all scopes must have a zero stop.

I think that you may be overlooking another possible advantage to the Burris rings. For long range work you can go more than one way to have enough adjustment. Some scopes have it internally. Some use slanted bases to get there, but another option is the offset inserts offered by Burris, which can be combined with a canted base for extreme long ranges. Even if the inserts are not needed to reach the required setting, they can be used so that when shooting at the most used distance, that the scope is near to its optical center. The man reason that I have lapped rings is that my benchrest rifle has a Davidson style base built into the action, and weight. Another thing that I like about the Burris rings is that they will never mark a scope.
