Burris Signature rings - why are some people not using them?

Surely you're not implying that simply because someone chooses something else that they be, ummm, of lesser intelligence?

Variety is the spice of life.

I use EGW bases and rings. Made in Pennsylvania, where we live.

Their Keystone line of rings are seriously overbuilt!
I tried lapping them, but that has proven to be a waste of time as they were at 90% contact or better already.

I'd be willing to wager that if you tried them, you at the very least would not notice any less accuracy.
Your over looking their ability to keep your scope centered leaving minimal adjusting with your scope internals. That's is their big advantage.

Nightforce ultralight rings for me. I can use multiple scopes on one rifle (day scope, thermal etc) with a 2 min swap and excellent zero retention. No lapping required. I run 30MOA offset rails on any gun I need extra elevation for. It's really hot here in Queensland and I would not trust plastic inserts.
Agreed ^^^
no rings are better, some may be equally as good, but none better

Looks like it is time to shut this thread down!
It's all good, Jesse.

Jeff has known for a few years now that I don't conform to the "norms". And we can agree to disagree, yet still remain friendly.

If he wants to yell at me that bad, he has my phone number.

And even though we may disagree, if he needs help with anything, I'm a phone call and 15 minutes away.

It wasn't really you guys it was directed at. I know what going on there, mostly fun. Theres a couple threads going on now that to me need shut down as no good useful info is coming out of them anymore.
Just my opinion and you and Jeff can call me and yell at me anytime its all good and I haven't talk to either of you for a while.:D

lots of reasons someone wouldnt use them that have nothing to do with how well they work. i use sigzee for about all my scopes. have never had a scope move with them.
and no more mars on the scope. i like the adjustment. i have some older scopes with lots of dings on the tube. (pre zee) i reserve my “other old” rings for them. the one thing id like to see is the inserts be more available in a wider range of sizes for 30 mm. the time i called burris and asked about getting some they wernt very nice. somebody with a 3D printer probably could sell a few of the inserts.

I called Burris customer service a number of years ago, the rep (John) was very rude and insulting. A retailer was trying to sell me a Burris scope, I commented on John's poor attitude and insults, the sales clerk said he got the same treatment. I have never and will never buy a Burris scope. I have bought many new scopes since that day. I have purchased the Burris Sig. rings. The patent must be about done, maybe some other company will start making them. I used a Leupold base with windage and the Sig rings for elevation adjustment with a 60 year old Bausch & Lomb scope with out any adjustments (straight tube) on a Kimber 22 LR. It worked great for a walking sage rat gun.

Are there counterfeits of these? I purchased a set of z rings for a HR M12 , inserts fit oddly and walked around as the ring screws were installed. Finally got pissed as the adjustment changing inserts was just not working, horizontally. I wanted to be within 3" at 50 yards, optical centered with scope. Probably will address this again, if I have 4-5 hrs to waste at the range some day.

Where did you buy them?

I know the rings being discussed probably work fine but I just have a problem connecting a $2,500 scope to a $5,000 dollar rifle with anything made out of plastic. I don’t even like having two connections when mounting a scope so I run direct mount ring sets or I order my actions with integral rails. For this reason, I run metal rings, generally Seekins or Talley, and yes I lap all my rings.

Plastics by definition are malleable or movable. I would not shim a scope but would you use a plastic shim under a ring? Again, the Burris rings are probably fine but I’ll stick to old school tried and proven methods to mount my scopes.

Dave.

Dave,
Just a little info. a friend of mine 15 years ago bought one of the bolt action Barrett 50 cal and we put a NF BR on with Burris Signature Zee rings and it never moved. Still mounted on it today. They are an extremely solid ring set up.

I’m sure they are fine. Call me old fashioned I guess!

i called burris some years ago and they were nasty to me also. none of their scopes for me either. i only buy the rings with inserts from them. and like you been hoping someone else will start selling them. seems like a 3d printer could make the inserts anyway.

I called Burris (about a year ago) and told them that the medium-priced compact binoculars that I had purchased approximately 25 years earlier had stopped working (I don't remember if they fogged up or what the problem was). I didn't expect much because they were so old but maybe they could repair. They were compact and were very light and fit into a jacket pocket, so I liked them.
They sent me a return authorization, so I had nothing to lose, but still didn't expect much.
They didn't have the parts to fix them.... so they sent me a brand-new pair that retailed for 3 times the cost that I originally paid.
Not too shabby

Here’s a little secret, if anyone’s interested in a Burris Eliminator scope, make sure you use their signature rings on the newest version “6”! How do I know? A friend loves them! Has two older ones and last fall bought the 6.
I’m a fan of Warne rings. I like their history, and believe they are still make in the USA! Without going into details, even at 15 inch pounds they don’t work.
My opinion, if this is the case, Burris should place a massive sticker on the box or scope stating that, or include a voucher for rings. There is a spot in the manual where they state that, but of course I didn’t read directions. After mounting hundreds of scopes, I thought I knew what I was doing.

Oh, and the first tech support I talked to was not pleasant….

At the time I had a problem (rudeness and insults) from the Burris customer service rep (John) I sent a letter to the company president. I never received a reply, John was probably also the mail boy. I was told Burris was a USA product, I found one in a store Made in the Philippines. I've spent a lot of money on Leupold scopes over the years. I've found them to be a good product, reliable, dependable and always outstanding service and tech support. Purchasing products for a hobby should be enjoyable, I won't tolerate a poor attitude or insults. I won't buy gold at a dollar a pound if the clerks a jerk.
