30-6.5prc

Thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing what staball charges you used to get the 180 up to 2950? I've been testing staball in my 30-284ai you helped me design. I got it up to about 2940 but had a hard time determining if I'd hit pressure or not.

This 30-6.5 has me intrigued the same way the 30-284ai does, but it has the added bonus of a longer lasting primer pocket and apparently a hair more case capacity

63 grs with F215 primers jumping about .056

What is your case water capacity?

68.75. I believe my charge that produced 2940 was 59.0 and cci200 primers. It was probably close to pressure limits if not over, but didn't show any signs probably due to the case design masking them

I'm working on it again now, but of course working on my stupid bullets. Now that we're shooting 1,000 again, I'll take advantage of being there once a month.

I think this is probably the high node with 15.5, but never hit any signs of pressure.

We know RL15 will work...however stability issues could arrise. Id try N150 and Varget
and varget may be too fast...but N150.??

15.5 is still kind of unobtainium. Ray said earlier that N150 pressured out kinda early.

Varget would be sweet.

I dont know..N150 shoots the 200-20x's real well with around 44.4-to-44.8gr range.
I mean real well...from my experience at least. Im thinkin it should work in the PRC and Id give it 2nd look just
because...
( I get it Ray's probly looking for more speed than im thinking about and probly right on that point )

Aaron, with 185-200gr bullets, I suspect that something like N160, RL19, N555, N560 and/or H4831 is what you are going to want with a 30"+ barrel. I only shot a few 190's. Everything else was 180 or less. N150 worked well with 150-168gr bullets out of a 20" bbl.

Depending on the particular powder density, you have 59-64 grains of case capacity to about mid-shoulder.

I was getting ejector swipe at 56 to 57grs (depending on primer and temp) with Berger 180 EH. They were running 2850-2950 out of a 20".

Maybe a lighter charge might work with a longer barrel, but I think a fuller case with a slower powder would work better with 200's

Thanks, Ray. I was wondering if there would be room to blow the shoulder forward enough to get 72.5gr H20 capacity, like the 7fcp and still have enough neck.

I think so. Depends on how much work you want to put into it.

Probably would n't need to go too far. Just necked up, it is 70+ grs
