Help Please… Cannot make up my mind

I am having a new F-Class rifle built… And Cannot make up my mind on a Caliber… I am wanting a Caliber with a Mag Bolt Face and I am not afraid of a wildcat… These are what I have narrowed it down to… 300 WSM, 7mm SAUM, 7mm Sherman SS, and a 6.5PRC Necked up to a 7mm..

Thanks in advance

Well I am a tight arse so I would go for the one that gave best throat life because once you get past 600 yards your wind calls are far more important than your accuracy

Looking at your list, have you considered a 30 RCM?

I think @ShootDots has rallied at least three of the cartridges on the short list.
I'd ask him.

You are absolutely correct. I have had the .300WSM, 7mm Sherman SS and the "regular" 7mm SAUM. All 3 are excellent. However, I believe the Sherman IS what the SAUM should have been. And now that Rich has brand new brass that DOES NOT need fireforming, it is a no-brainer compared to the "regular" 7SAUM. Now the .300WSM is literally at the TOP of the food-chain in F-Open>>>>IF you are not recoil / torque shy. Shooting a 230 gr bullet all day can cause recoil fatigue if you are not prepared for it. If you are, there is no better round than the .300WSM shooting a 230gr Hybrid at 2775. However, if you are really not prepared for it, the 7mm Sherman SS is THEE ticket!

What twist would you choose for the 230's?
I have been using the 210 VLD's with both H4350 and RL16 with some success in both F-Class and BR.
You have me curious about the 230's. I actually thought you had settled on the 215 Hybrids?

At first I did settle on the 215s.. However, after testing (about 1 years worth at 1000) there is no difference in wind bucking between the 215s and 230s. However, there is noticeably LESS vertical dispersion between the two. Let's say you get an "upper 10" (a 10 but getting close to the ring at 12 o'clock) a 215 WILL go into the 9 ring. It does not STOP atmospheric vertical dispersion, however, there is NO BULLET that defies it better. I forgot to tell you>>>>1-9.5 is the way to go..

One of the best piece of shooting advise I ever got was: "Base your calibers on available, quality brass"

Have you tried the newer 220 berger? Are you pointing the 215 or 230’s? Thanks

No Sir, I have not. I know from other shooters in the past that both the 215s and the 230s work great>>>and they do! So I stuck with what worked for me. I started pointing when pointing first became a fad. Now I don't do it anymore.
