Before or after

Over heard a little range talk other day:
do you resize your fired brass before or after you anneal.
I‘ve done it both way, what about you?

Size after. Seems like the only sensible way, but I read about people de-capping AFTER they SS media tumble so I never assume logical approaches.

To each their own but for me the order of operations just makes sense to deprime, clean, anneal, then resize.

Agree with all of the above. Can't see much point in annealing after sizing.

After, with the exception being some people actually double anneal. Once before AND once after but before expander mandreling. Some believe sizing work hardens the neck a little bit so they anneal again and then expand. I never tried or had the inclination to try but if it works for them that's good.

Before resizing, that is one of the main reasons you anneal before, so brass is not to hardened and cracks/splits, etc when you resize it.

Tried both ways but seemed like sizing after annealing made the most sense and that is my routine. Below is a screenshot from the AMP website and believe these guys have done a ton of testing......

Always before sizing.

Sizing after annealing, does work harden the brass some. The main points I look for is bring the brass close to the same hardness before sizing to get the sizing consistency I'm after, and of course annealing every time helps the brass's longevity.

I clean my brass after annealing and before sizing so the abrasive oxidation layer from annealing doesn't wear on my sizing dies. Then after sizing, I clean again to remove the lube.

I have no rush when I sit at the loading table. Might have to try this just for the he** of it.

I anneal, size, tumble in rice then decapp so I can make sure no rice is in the flash hole. Then mandrel, chamfer/debur.

Shoot em......Anneal & tumble then D-prime , lube and size ......short tumble or wipe the cases and mandrel prime and load. ( Provided they dont need trimmin )
