Prefit shouldered barrels

Theres no reason you cant cut a shouldered barrel prefit for something like a Bat for example. Even if I have a Bat in my shop, I dont use it to chamber the barrel. I know the numbers and I know where the barrel will clock up on the model Im working with. Theres no accuracy in fitting barrels tight. But I wont do that will all makes.

I just cut down an old barrel to use as a fire-former on my Bat M. I did it all to the measurements instead of the action. It was also timed. Frankly, it was probably easier to do it without the action and the headspace landed exactly where I'd expect it.

It's funny. For years I've been hearing the gunsmiths say that nut barrels were just "close enough" for (you know) not for "serious competition" because they aren't truly "fitted".

Now I'm the one saying the shouldered barrels aren't "close enough". And others are saying they are...

How ironic.

Alex, are you able to clock a prefit for the Borden actions without having the action in hand? not asking for you to do a prefit just wondering if it was like the BATS.
