And if you wonder why people on this forum that give a lot knowledge get jaded..In the mean time I will keep playing nice with my 280AI...
Peterson cases & 184 Berger's
Having once been in a business that had to keep inventing something new @ year to stay ahead of the competitors that copied anything that you had that was successful; if someone is dead serious about copying the 284 Wheeler reamer all that is necessary is to make a chamber cast of one of the rifles out in the public domain and have one cut from the measurements... OR find a fired case.
Just wondering if Mr Wheeler bought this property? Just perfect if he did...

Alex, maybe you already covered this and I missed it but do you use a different 284 reamer for target guns versus a 284 hunting rifle setup? The chamber is the same as a regular 284. You could try to measure the throat with a cast so you can try to steal it which would be pretty hard to do or you could buy a bunch of different reamers and put in the work to figure it out honestly. And no, I would never live in Ca. And if I had that kind of money no one could find me![]()
The only difference is turn vs no turn if your shooting a 180. But in my opinion, the 168 vld is a better choice in the 284 for hunting, I use a shorter fb. Awesome terminal ballistics and flatter trajectory which matters in hunting, not known distance target shooting.Alex, maybe you already covered this and I missed it but do you use a different 284 reamer for target guns versus a 284 hunting rifle setup?

Hi Alex, you may have told me, but I don’t remember the trim to dimension for the 284 W you chambered for me. Happy New Year.Yes its a standard 284 case with some changes mostly in the throat (not everything is on the print). JGS names everything after you. I have a bunch of "284 Wheeler" reamers. I have never released this print to anyone. There are multiple reasons. Yes, it takes time and money to figure stuff out. Also its not a one size fits all. You can't apply the same thing to other bullets/cartridges and expect similar results. In fact its been a failure in other cartridges.
